Please help! Monitor Audio BR6 or RS6?
Hi guys!
How big is the difference between BR6 and RS6 models? Whose bass is deeper/lower and how different is the sound generally. Can't find any store which got BR6 in the showroom, so can't compare them. Could someone make it clear for me, please?
P.S: And what amp would you recommend? My budget is up to £350.
Regards,
Dai

Re: Please help! Monitor Audio BR6 or RS6?
hi, mate,
sorry to break this to you, but both the BR6 and SR6's are way out of budget unless you;re looking SH. Even then I think you'd struggle to get the SR6's in budget and the BR's have only just come out, so I can't see many available on the SH market.
The BR6's are around £500-£550, and I would guess the SR6's are around the £800 mark.
The SR1's are about £350 and are excellent standmounts.

Hi, lazymatt!
Thanks for reply! That figure is the budget for my amp, not the speakers, sorry if that was not clear. Auditioned RS6 today - excellent sound, but would like to audition both br6 and rs6 side by side to see the difference.

Re: Please help! Monitor Audio BR6 or RS6?
the RS6's will sound a bit more refined in the treble and the midrange.....the BR6's however will be much more powerful sounding at louder volumes.....they are made to fill nice big rooms....the RS6's can still fill a big room, but not with the same sense of scale....
if you want the BR6 equivelant you need the RS8's.....
I havnt heard the BR range itself i should point out, but I have heard the previous B range and from what i gather there is not a wholesale improvement, more just a refining.......

Sorry
In that case, as KB says, the BR6's are really designed for larger rooms. How big is your room? If they're anything like the RS8, they really need a big space, or else they become a bit boomy.
If you do go for the RS6's, they will quite happily drive a much better amp than £350 will get you new. Have you thought SH?
There was a guy on here who got a Rosan Kandy MKIII for £250 ish SH. It's a great deal for what was a great £650 amp, and matches MA's sound really well.
Not sure if the MF is within that price range SH yet, but they also partner the MA's well (just ask KB)
Otherwise I guess the usual, NAD, CA and Marantz suspects crop up. What's your source going to be?

Re: Please help! Monitor Audio BR6 or RS6?
Thanks for the replies guys!
I haven't got any sources yet, this is going to be my first system. My room is 13x15 feet. Do you think that rs6 will be good enough to feel the room? rs8 is out of my budget I'm afraid. As per amp, it's difficult with a second hand, often because you cannot listen to them first and all amps sound different. I really liked Marantz 7001 sound, so probably going to stick with it.
Cheers,
dai

Re: Please help! Monitor Audio BR6 or RS6?
I don't know what the power output on the Marantz is, but the S6's I have more that fill my room which is about the same size as yours. My Roksan outputs 120w & I've never had them louder than about 40% volume. Even at that level they can be heard all the way down the back of the (50ft) garden.
The RS8's would be much to 'large' IMHO.

aye, I have Silver S6's too, the RS6's will happily fill that space twice over, the BR6's would be a waste power wise, and you'd suffer on quality....
if you go brand new, consider the Cambridge Audio amps, 640 i believe is the nearest price wise in your budget? that should power them and counter the more brighter sound quite nicely.....
or if you want to take a risk second hand (bear in mind a lot of second hand sellers will be happy to let you try the amp first to make sure its ok, altho you might have to cover their petrol if they live a way away), look for Musical Fidelity amps or Arcam.........Roksan are good if you like the ol' Rock music, but tbh i didnt find the Kandy Mk3 much good for anything else, it was decent, but it didnt perform to the standard i'd want personally.....altho worth saying i'm a bit fussy on certain sounds, midbass drums have to snap like whip, vocals have to sound as though they are in a cloud in the stratosphere and bass drums have to be either taught OR rumble as appropriate, nothing worse than a bass drum that should be rumbling (a lá Joss Stone track 9 on MBS album, or Shaggy's It Wasn't Me single) but is tightened up because the amp knows no better :/

you dont wanna know some of the junk i listen to....LOL
always makes me laugh when someone says they have an eclectic listening habit.....then go on to mention mostly the obvious stuff......adding in 'i like classical too'...usually translated means they've heard some of the Four Seasons when their mum watches Last Night at the Proms...lol....
me, i really do listen to all sorts of stuff...heh....peer pressure has no hold on me.....i have Mortal Kombat techno theme on my PDA music folder, I have Joss Stone, Saw Doctors, Martika, Soup Dragons, Trip to Trumpton, R Kelly, Fugees, Ashanti, Black Box, Jungle Brothers, Vanilla Ice, Kicks like a Mule, Gorillaz, Shaggy, Lemon Jelly, Aphex Twin, Shostakovich, various recordings from JAPT drum battles, a Japanese singer who i forget, DJ Krush, some country, more classical, some world music, not to mention Bomb the Bass's track from Xenon 2.(edit, It's The Megablast...just remembered.heh)...lol.......so not just stuff i've collected over the years during fad moments, but stuff i actively listen to all the time
and thats nothing compared to what i've got on the puter....hahaha
oh for the OP, glad you've made a choice, I hope it makes you happy

Man...there's some horrors in there...Vanilla Ice? Really? Think of the damage you're doing to your lovely MA's. They won't thank you for it you know.
To the op - good choice. I'm sure you'll be happy. Have you decided on an amp yet?

Re: Please help! Monitor Audio BR6 or RS6?
Good choice!!
Going for the RS6 myself after much indecision on the RS8 which every review i read states " without a very large room , will just end up booming ".
Coupled with the RSW12 , RSFX , RSLCR , my RS6 will probably blow my room to bits.

Going for the Marantz 7001, as it probably will take some time to hunt for a SH, but I can't wait anymore. It should serve me well for at least couple of years.
