Ceiling Speakers - Connected to what?

Hi Guys,

I'm buying a brand new house and have a chance to put in some ceiling speakers (for background music) across the house.

I'm trying to find the name for whatever the unit is called that you connect to the speakers to get sound through them and so you can select which speaker in the house the noise outputs to.

Does anybody know the name of such a system so that I can go and check prices ?

Thanks,

NAC

Re: Ceiling Speakers - Connected to what?

You have a few options depending on what you want to achieve. If you use something like the Sonos or Yamaha musicast then you only need to take your cables back to the local control/output unit. The Sonos can sit in the loft space or in cupboards near every location (room) and connects wirelessly back to the NAS (main source of music files) whereas the Yamaha (or many others) you will need to run Cat 5 cable from the local control/output to the main controller in your lounge (for example).

Another option is the take all the loudspeaker cables back to one location and use a multichannel amplifier linked to some zoning device. This is how many of the systems from Crestron / living control / Netstreams work. The problem with this method is that to get control from the room you are in you need to use wireless controllers or additional wired controllers in all locations; hence this is usually the higher cost option.

I would have a good look at the Sonos and Yamaha systems and see if these meet your requirements.

Feel free to PM me if you need any more info.

Dupe…
