Unhappy Naim Nait 5 Issues

I have bought a Naim Nait 5 over e-bay. My seller has told me that this amplifier doesn't use muting relay - so I should expect a thumpin sound when switching on the amp, if not kept at zero volume. He also tells me that would hear some hiss from speakers if I press my ears to one. He says this is normal to the Naim Nait 5. Is this normal or I am missing something?

Re: Naim Nait 5 Issues

Hi

This behavior is normal for Nail equipment... Just make sure that you are using a speaker cable such as NAC A5 to avoid any possible problems.. They don't like high capacitance cables...

Re: Naim Nait 5 Issues

It is quite normal for most decent quality amplification. Also, all electronic circuits produce some noise.

Thanks for the response. I may be completely wrng but I have read in a review somewhere that the Naim amps have some muting relays which kick in for a few moments when the amp is powered on. Have I got that wrong?

Many thanks!

My NAC A5 is on its way :-)
I remember having read this in a review somewhere recently that NAIT 5's muting circuit kicks in for a few moments when the amp is powered on. Have I got that wrong? This is a huge investment for me- I just want to make sure that I haven't been given a lemon.

Re: Naim Nait 5 Issues

If there were any problems, you'd know about them by now. Adding muting relay to electronic circuits is adding more in the signal path, which is why Naim stays away from it. It may sound a little unpleasant sometimes, but it's nothing that will hurt your speakers.
