Pearl and DVDO VP 50

Hi guys,

I have posted this thread on the processor forum but have had little response so will try here!

I am looking at the possibility of adding a VP50 to my set up - primarily to get a digital HD signal up to the Pearl and also to handle my sd signals(humax freeview and ps2).

I was contemplating swapping my amp to get the new Yamaha 2700 but to be honest am happy as that sandboy with the sound and general performance of my yamaha A2.

I could of course just go direct from a HD source (new Tosh ex1 dvd or ps3) to the projector without going through either amp or processor but this will lose me the freeview signal as I am trying to feed everything to the Pearl through a new hdmi silver serpent cable from Joe F.

What do you think?
Are there any issues with the Pearl and the VP50?
Is it a needless expense with little gain and a much cheaper option available?

I am particularly interested in those Pearl owners who have added the VP50 and can therefore evidence any improvement gained.

Re: Pearl and DVDO VP 50

The benefits of a good video scaler are very obvious, especially if you pay for a full ISF calibration for something like a lumagen as you can then use the 11 point gamma to really fix the pearls issues with low IRE inaccuracy. Even more of a benefit is running 48hz refresh rate for ntsc material and judder free playback.

We added a huge number of Lumagen HDP /HDQ to pearl customers, and all have been very impressed at the improvement, i don't know where you are located but go to a dealer and get a demo ona pearl with and wihout

Re: Pearl and DVDO VP 50

Thanks Elliot, I am in the midlands (Walsall) so I am not sure if there is anywhere local?

Sound academy are a local dealer and have had dvdo in the past but I think have even dropped these no.

Would you recommend the lumagen over the VP50 for the pearl.

Sources are 2 or 3 dvd's a week (if i can get the wife to watch that many!) and otherwise normal tv fed through a humax. PS3 and hd hdvd will likely follow shortly but the humax feed is likely to get most use.
