Help: Minimum seperation to make a pair of bookshelf speakers sing

Dear friends
I am moving to a small listening room, about 3m by 7m by 3m (width x length x height)

I reckon a pair of bookshelves are a better bet, so I will consider the GS10 rather than the GS20, but will the room still be too narrow for them?
How far apart for music / HT do they need to be and how far away from the rear and side walls?

I will expand into a home theater setup after this, driving them with my Marantz SR 12, adding a GS LCR and rears.

I actually like the GS20 but given the room, I think the GS10 will suffice, with a SVS PB12+ for HT.

Thanks

Pete

The rule of thumb (Stereo) is for every 6ft apart the speakers are you should sit 10ft away. In metric money that should read 2 metres apart you are 3 metres away.

Re: Help: Minimum seperation to make a pair of bookshelf speakers sing

Thanks mate!
I just fear that with only 50cm on either side, the bass will get boomy

Any suggestions for HT placement?
If I remember, its about 60 degrees for stereo and 45 degree for HT, did I get that right?

Cheers
Pete

don't be too concerned about boomy bass my speakers are less than 6 ft away from one another and sound great. What is more important is if they are rear ported that they are sufficient distance from the wall.

a room of 7m by 3m by 3m isn't really a small room is it?? My listening room is 3m wide by 5m long which is stilla decent size maybe not for a full surround system but will happy accomadate my b&w 805's and Musical Fidelity A5 amp and CD player when I finally get them!
