Fitting spikes to B&W LCR60 center?

Hi all.
New to this, but would much appreciate some advice from those in the know!

I just bought a B&W LCR60 center speaker, and it currently sits horizontally on one of the wooden shelves of my run-of-the-mill stand.
I want to get the best out of it, and was considering attaching spikes to the bottom of it - giving clearance from the shelf.
This will of course mean drilling holes in it - something I am wary to do as it's a one-way option!

Q: Is the sound quality that greatly improved to warrant doing this to my pride and joy?!?!?!

Also, while I'm here - any comments on whether I can get away with DM600's for the rears as opposed to 601's (I have DM602 S3's on stands for the fronts) - according to my girlfriend size IS important - and bigger is NOT better!!!!!

Thanks for any advice!

This might help http://www.oregondv.com/spikes.htm

I just recently installed spikes to the bottom of my speaker stands, and I gotta say i noticed a huge difference within a couple days.
More tighter bottom end,and all around cleaner sound.

Although my speakers are MA GR10's.
