Sanyo PLVZ4

Anyone have one of these. 15 months old, would it still be a decent purchase? Have seen one new for under 700 notes.

I want to achieve 72" diag image from a distance of 8/9 feet.

What you guys reckon?

Re: Sanyo PLVZ4

That's a bargain. I paid nearer £1200 for mine just over a year ago. I find it to be a great projector with a rock solid image and vibrant colours. It's lens shift and zoom are very versatile for positioning, but ject www.projectorcentral.com for a throw calculator on the Z4 to check compatibility with your room.

To me its only weak point is contrast ratio, which is OK, but nowhere near as deep as DLP. Don't expect the 7000:1 CR in the specs, you're nearer to 1000:1 with a decently calibrated image. However, this still throws as good an image as anything I saw when demoing and didn't give me the eyestrain DLP did.

Re: Sanyo PLVZ4

You will be at the maximum zoom.
2,6 m (8.5 feet) is the closest distance for your requested 208 cm.

The Z4 is a great projector. I own mine for 5 months.
Mine is calibrated with a special glas filter.

Back then I was not sure to wait for the Z5 with the same hardware or take the Z4.
As I do not need a second HMDI port and contrast ratios are theoretical values as the other posting states I saved some money

Care to share who is selling under £700 ~ if there is enough to go round??

Have seen them for £850 with a free bulb (couple of weeks back @ nexnix or something like that!), so would depend how much money u had available on which is the better deal for u!

Re: Sanyo PLVZ4

I am sorry mate. Under 600 -VAT.

It's still only 750 notes though.

As for maximum zoom - how does this effect the image. Is it blotchy and easier to see the pixellation?

No but you have almost no room left to adjust the picture to the screen.

Re: Sanyo PLVZ4

The sanyo z4 was the leader of the LCD bunch last year for most. This year the panasonic AX100 and the Sanyo Z5 are fighting it out, although the winner is likely to be the Epson TW700.

But that is just the PJ's in the LCD corner there is even more fun in the DLP corner.

Re: Sanyo PLVZ4

I love the Z4 but as it's my first projector I'm not really in a position to compare with other models

This, however, should be of some assistance. Use the guides there to see calculate screen size, throw distance & throw ratio. Should answer some of your questions
