Unhappy Philips 880 plz help!

Hi all, I just bought a "philips dvdr 880" and I also bought a macrovision remover thing so I could back up some of my vhs tapes, and I also want to do the odd dvd or two that are looking a bit tatty.

I am however, unable to backup dvd-->dvd because the dvd recorder keeps coming up with "copy protected".

Is there ANY way to get round this at all?

Thanks

yes there are cables that remove the digital copy protection bit (called something like CGMS) techtronics (although a bunch of wan**ers who don't understand the meaning of customer service) have one for £50 also if you take a look at www.dvdplusrw.org in the forums theres another device that does the job.
All R2 disks seem ok but R1's all give the message
