Forgotten Router Password question...

Oops.

I have forgotten the password to my router (netgear MR814v2) and am not too sure what exactly i need to note down for a hard reset.

I have my kids pc, pda and music server on it at the moment (my pc is hard wired).

On the netgear help site, it mentions ports etc, but i`m not sure if i have any (other than the normal) ones open.

could some kind gent give me an idiots guide on what i need to note down please.

TIA

Re: Forgotten Router Password question...

Have you tried 'admin' for the password? i know most of the routes ive used use admin as the username and password as default.

Re: Forgotten Router Password question...

They normally have a reset button that takes it back to factory defaults including the password, you will lose all your config though....

Too late if you haven't already done it, but it's usually possible (and wise) to backup the configuration data to a file...

Saved me a lot of hassle when my Netgear router suddenly decided to spontaneously lose all its settings after a couple of years of faultless operation!

Re: Forgotten Router Password question...

Before you factory reset it, do an ipconfig /all on one of the client machines. This will give you the ip subnet information for plugging back into the router (assuming that you had it setup as a DHCP server)
