What in-car DVD system

I have just bought a car (Volvo) and the wife has decided that we must have DVD system for the back seats to keep the kids entertained, bear in my that the children are 2yrs old and 4months old She was planning on getting the Volvo built-in system as there was a special offer. Only £1000 instead of £2000 However she finally realised that the screens are quite small, about 5.7 inches.

I am now looking for a good portable system with one or two large screens, at least 8 inches. Possibly bigger as the wife has a thing for big TV's (we have a 50" in the main TV room and a 45" in the living room!).

At one end of the range I could for something like this Wharfdale from Argos. Main benefit its only £150.

Or I could go for this Nextbase SDV-185S twin screen system. Main disadvantage is it costs £550 (which is still £450 cheaper than the wife's original suggestion!).

I would probably go for the Wharfdale from Argos but I don't like their returns policy anymore. Especially as I am not sure how well it fit onto the back of the headrests of my car as they are a very odd shape.

Any advice on a good system, with speakers (as I can't see my 2yr old wanting to wear a pair of headphones!).

Re: What in-car DVD system

Been keeping an eye out myself recently for in car DVD. Can't decide best option, and can't give you much advice, but Halfords have a twin 7" screen with each screen having a built in dvd player (with DivX support), so you can watch different dvd's on each screen. Price 149.99
Don't know what audio options are though, not much info on website.

I actually picked up a Sony MEX-R5 head unit from halfords the other day for 129.99, which has DVD output (including wireless video/audio) mp3 etc, so i may just look for some screens to go with that. It's discontinued but may still be in some stores, original price over 300.00

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what people suggest....

I have a Nxtbase system currently, it is very good and keeps the little one [3 yrs old] happy for hours. Don't forget you will need to have a dual cigar lighter socket which is always live [petrol stations etc]. I would also look at a side slot loading system with remote control, if you don't you'll have to stop to change the DVD.

Ultimatelly the best system is an in dash, or under seat system linked to two headrest screens. The screen and DVD system can be had for around £400. This will allow you to control the DVD from the front seats and change discs at will.
