Sony 55A2000U - SXRD cheapest to buy?
Hi,
I was wondering where is the best place to buy one of these without a stand?
Also with a good warranty?
But Im quite worried about when people get problems like the green blob. How quick till the set does this?
Is it worth me buying a 2nd hand one which hasnt got green blob, so I can know it wont have this problem. Because I dont want to keep changing it.
And Id contact sony if the problem happens?
Any other big problems with this set. Its coming up to march, and Im gonna buy 1 of these at the same time as my ps3. launch time.
Thanks

Amazon are probably about the cheapest. They were charging £1500 + £30 delivery the last time I checked. I don't know about the warranty.

I think it's usually visible right away, but can occasionally take a couple of weeks to appear.

No, you'd contact whoever sold it to you. Under the terms of the Sale Of Goods Act you have a contract with the seller, and it is their responsibility to either repair it or replace it. The manufacturer doesn't owe you anything - their contract is with the seller, not with you.

Re: Sony 55A2000U - SXRD cheapest to buy?
The very cheapest way I found (after much research) is by getting a Virgin credit card. Bear with me...
As a member privilege, you can buy Comet vouchers at 13% off. Then you can buy the set by contacting the Comet website and arranging to pay with aforementioned vouchers. The cost would equate to about £1390 plus whatever delivery charge they apply.
Comet don't seem to have stock on the website at the mo, but I don't know if they're getting more in. I've also heard that sometimes it can be difficult to pay in vouchers at web prices but they were OK with me. Well, until they ran out !

That also sounds good.
Maybe I should get one thats second hand, so i know it wont have the green blob effect, not too old. And I dont need a stand either...
where to look

Re: Sony 55A2000U - SXRD cheapest to buy?
I think you'd be far safer getting one new. Mainly because I'd feel safer buying a high value item from a large company with bricks and mortar stores than an individual.
Also, a lot of second hand goods (especially private sale) are "sold as seen" and if this was the case you may have trouble getting repairs done if any problems arose. There's also no guarantee you wont have any blob issues with a second hand one. I'd be very wary of buying one second hand at the mo anyway as I'd be questioning why someone would be getting rid of something that good so quickly !

Amazon for £1500!
I bought mine and they hiked the price to £16xx for a while but back down now
It comes with a 1 year breakdown and free accidental damage cover plan.
This is through Domestic and General - I took out an extension for only £107 which extended it for a total of 5 YEARS!!!
Worth the money there!

Slack, is the warranty extension offer in-box from Sony or did that come from Amazon ?
Might save me a bit of hassle !

Re: Sony 55A2000U - SXRD cheapest to buy?
Hi I have found THIS, is this the same model but a different number, the model number here is KD55A20S1XTNS, looks the same and I think same specs, this has got a DVD recorder all in for £1295, but is out of stock at the mo.
What do you think?
Regards
JO

That model number refers to the TV with stand; KDS-55A2000 is the same TV without the stand.

How many years warranty? Because Robert Whytes sells it for that price and 5 year warranty.

Re: Sony 55A2000U - SXRD cheapest to buy?
Comet is now also down to £1299. That includes delivery (and, thus far, has included a stand, although never officially). Only a 1-year warranty, though.
Robert Whyte comes to about £100 more when you factor in the delivery cost and credit card surcharge. But you get a 5-year warranty. And a stand.
Empire Direct is £1324 including delivery, and definitely includes a stand.
RGB Direct is £1289.90 including stand and a free DVD recorder. I haven't been able to figure out the delivery charge, but it could be inclusive. 1 year warranty. Currently out of stock.
If you're shopping around, check www.digico.co.uk as well - they do free delivery to some places (like London).
