Mulit Channel

I have noticed that when watching movies with my PS3 my receiver (Denon 3806) shows multi channel input on the panel instead of DD or DTS. It does not sound as good either. Seems a little flat. It does not do this with any other device. Any suggestions? Could be a setting in the PS3 but I thought I would try to let you guys educate me a little on multi channel.

Re: Mulit Channel

Assuming you're connected via HDMI if it comes up as Multichannel then you should be getting a decoded LPCM signal from the PS3. Once again, assuming you've selected the correct soundtrack on the disc (PCM if it has it) then you'll be getting lossless audio which is as good as it gets.

I don't own a PS3 so I'm not familiar with it's setup options.

Re: Mulit Channel

Take a look in the PS3 audio and see if it has a DRC option, make sure it is off. Also in the amp if you have done Audyssey make sure in the speaker setup you are running the sub mode as LFE+Main. Also when you next run your PS3 and it comes up with Multi channel, press the direct button. You only have to do this once and the amp will maintain the number of channels coming in at higher quality. It will process you Dolby and DTS as normal, so don't worry.

The final touch would be to go into the setup menu, into Auto/EQ then for direct mode turn the EQ on so it applys Audyssey to it.

Re: Mulit Channel

Thanks for the replies!

Jase,

I am connected to my PS3 via HMDI. I will check for the PCM piece. It just seemed kinda flat and quiet. I didnt turn the volume much above normal so I may have found out that it was very good at a louder level. I will give it a go tonight.

Eddy,

Thanks! I will try those as well.

Chris
