freeview in the boudoir

hi all,

pretty new to this.......looking for help on the following....

missus wants freeview in the bedroom, so we bought one of those bush freeview thingummy's that just plugs straight into the scart.(like a mini freeview box)....... now the signal is terrible as first suspected.......

now bearing in mind i already have freeview built into my plasma downstairs and the reception is excellent.....but, the wife does not want cables poked in her roof to take a feed off the existing aerial.....

so i guess the question is: can i get a booster/aerial for a portable tv that will give me the signal i need????...

your help and recommendations on products would be greatly appreciated...

either that or the wife is going on ebay.... so if u want to get in early with a bid then feel free.....(oh extras would be a five year old girl and a nissan micra)...

Cheers

Ryza

Re: freeview in the boudoir

I didn't understand your post. First you say your Freeview signal is terrible. Then you say "i already have freeview built into my plasma downstairs and the reception is excellent".

So obviously your Freeview signal isn't terrible.

Anyway, the way to get a second feed is to split the aerial coax in the loft and connect a second cable. If the splitter reduces the signal too much, you'll have to use a two-output masthead amplifier instead.

Re: freeview in the boudoir

my apologies mate.....wording could have been better....

what i meant was the aerial on the portable in the bedroom does not pick up the signal very well......

my signal is very good.....

is there any other way of doing this without running cables from the loft....my missus dont want that.....nightmare...is there something i can connect to the back of the tv or a different aerial that would pick up the signal better..

thanks for your reply mate..

Re: freeview in the boudoir

Running a cable from the loft is easy! I just drilled a hole in the bedroom ceiling. I used white cable directly down to where the TV set is at the foot of the bed. My wife spends half her life there watching Freeview.

The alternative would be to chase a channel down the wall, run the cable under the floorboards then bring it up through the bedroom carpet!

If your signal is really really good you could try one of those portable "Telecam" aerials from Argos. But you've still got to hide it somewhere. If you put it on top of the TV set, that's the worst place for interference. And they are very susceptible to problems from people moving about.

I've got a similar setup in my bedroom and have found the One For All powered indoor antenna perfect for the job. Got mine from John Lewis but notice they also do them on Amazon. However, what works for one may be pants for another, so don't take this as gospel!
