VP50 with Sony 52X2000
Hiya
I've heard rumours of a problem with this TV and the VP50. Does anyone have, or have experience of this combination?
Thanks very much.

Why do you want a VP50 to a 52X2000?
You know your panel is a true 1080 panel and a VP50 would be waste of money.

Re: VP50 with Sony 52X2000
Hi Likvid
It's the other way around. I have a VP50, an I am looking at buying the Sony.
I can also asure you that the VP50 processor with PReP for SD out of the Sky HD box works well. The VP50 is a perfect partner for 1080i outputted by SkyHD as well as the VP50 has a much better deinterlacer than the Sony. This will effectively bypass the poor (cheap) processors in LCD TVs.
I've heard rumours that tha Sony keeps breaking the 50Hz lock ove HDMI, and I was just wondering if anybody who has this combo can confirm this, or has a work around

Re: VP50 with Sony 52X2000
choddo2006, that was what I was thinking! Yeah, like the built in chipsets are going to do accurate cadence detection for 2:2 pulldown on 1080i.

Re: VP50 with Sony 52X2000
Hi Stoomonster,
How is your 5000EX with your VP50. Any issues? and is it safe to use SKYHD HDMI with it now? I'm only asking because I may be after one if I cant find anything else. Do you think the 1080P res makes a difference over the lower res screens?
Thanks for any info.

No it's a total waste if your sources are HD.

Re: VP50 with Sony 52X2000
Does 1920x1080 pixels make a difference over say 1366x768 or 1280x768? The question is how far away you sit from it and what sources you run through it. SD is pretty similar, even upscaled with expensive hardware, but 1080i deinterlaced (either from 1080p film source, or calced from 1080i video source) is very impressive the level of detail is superb, even from quite far away.
Had my AV dealer round on last week, who sold me the PDP-5000EX. Gave him a quick demo of Sky HD running via VP50, and he was impressed. Showed him BBC HD loop that he runs all day long in his shop, so is very familiar with, and he was blown away with PQ compared to PDP-5000EX's excellent internal chipset.
No issues with Sky HD's HDMI, but that runs into video processors (it's done Lumagen and DVDOs etc). I heard the problem was with specific Pioneer models, that had a certain HDMI Receiver chipset.
Likvid: Although the PDP-5000EX is a native 1080p screen and has pretty good deinterlacers, it's still not as good as some of the external dedicated scalers such as VP50. Does the Sony 52X2000 properly deinterlace 1080i50 to 1080p, despite it costing half the price of 5000EX?

Re: VP50 with Sony 52X2000
Thanks Stoomonster. To answer your question: 10 feet.
I've heard rumours that the Sony keeps breaking Lock. Is that right Joe F.?
PS. Who is your dealer Stoomonster, please PM me if that is a sensative question. Thanks

Soundcraft Hifi of Ashford, Kent -- managed to get me two PDP-5000EX on European launch day (had it before available in USA ) -- I've been a customer since I was ten years old in 1978.

I'd say it's less valuable. Not a total waste. For the reasons Stoomonster & Chris5 (in the post you replied to originally, hence my comment) have stated.

Re: VP50 with Sony 52X2000
I think we need to qualify the arguement a bit.
If the source was originally 1080p, then I would think there is not much that a VP could bring, except perhaps framerate conversion if needed.
However sky transmits 1080i, and displays natively need 1080p, so yes, external processors can do a lot.
