3930 is it worth it ?

I currently have a dvd 2200 which I'm very happy with. It's connected to my pio436xde via component. I know the 2200 doesn't have any built in upscaling technology but the pio will scale the image to it's native res of 1024x768, so this is essentially upscaling the image anyway.

Will the upscaled image of the 3930 be any better than what I'm getting now ? Of course this will be connected via HDMI so would this show an increase in image quality as well ?

The answer is yes,the 3930 is a far superior unit, its new tech.but at £900 the question is,is it worth it to you? I think that this unit price for price is the best dvd player on the planet.

Well I hope that I find out how good the 3930Ci is. I ordered one a month ago and still have not received it. I will post again once I have had a chance to look it over.

Re: 3930 is it worth it ?

Simple answer is; "For me ? Yes!"

As with all these things, your millage may vary. In my case, the 3930 really helps make the most of a 52" 1080p screen which is 2.5m from my sofa. I am still playing with the various options (especially the DNR, MPEG NR and Enhancement) for different types of DVDs - old, bad film transfers need different settings to newer productions and remasters IMHO.

The one niggle I have aside from the high price is the lack of a vertical-only or horizontal-only zoom option for old non-anamorphic content.

In terms of price, my justification was looking at my investment in DVDs vs the cost of the player - the player is only a small proportion of the money I have spent on the films.

Thanks for all your comments. I think the only way I'll answer my own questions is to demo the player.

Very interesting way of looking at it. I have a collection of 800+ dvds and still growing. I'm very happy with my current player and happen to think the quality is very good, but if there's more to be had then an investment in the 3930 would be justified.
