PAL Progressive player?????
Hello all,
it's me again.
I'm still after a £700-£900 Multiregion Progressive scan DVD player.
I have had so many conflicting reports about which players will be able to do PAL progressive as well as NTSC progressive.
I know the Phillips 962sa did PalP, but this is now unavailable (through Hivizone)
As I will soon be ordering a Toshiba 42 Plasma, I'd like to go for a Progressive DVD player that does PalP if possible.
Does anyone know if the new Denon 3800 will be PalP?
I cannot afford any more than 800-900 max for this player.
What do you all suggest?
Thanks for all the replys on my various threads by the way people, a helpful forum is such a rarity these days for newbies!

I have just ordered a Philips q50 from hivizone. It costs about 350 before customs etc.
I have heard very good reports.
I will let you know what I think. However, first I need to order a projector (panny AE100) and TV (tosh 36" Strata TV or Panny 37" plasma).
Just moved house and have a little spare cash to treat myself.

Does the Pioneer do PAL Prog, the 503 doesn't?

not sure about the pioneer, hence asking on this thread
have taken the plunge and ordered a Denon 3800 from Audio-T (thanks for the recommendation installer09 )
apparently, the guy has the discs in at the shop and should get the player in 10-14 days.
will do Pal Progressive, but not true Pal Prog, I think it does 525p not 625p (if thats right)
will do for me until better upgrade discs become available!
Here's hoping it doesn't have any problems like previous Denon's!

Buy a projector instead.
Better and bigger picture, and you won't have this progressive DVD dilemma.

buy a projector with a fantastic deinterlacer/scaler and maybe you won't worry too much about progressive.
Buy any one of the remaining 90% of projectors on the market, and progressive becomes more of an issue, in an attempt to get the best picture possible, because you are blowing up any image problems very large.
Just ask the AE100 owners here

Problems?
It would only be a problem if you bought a HD projector.

What?!?!
I don't think a pj image is as good as a plasma (a good one at least) but only because of the mass increase in size but the bigger picture has got to be more fun and cinematic....

I see what you're getting at But I disagree. A top spec projector will be so good that you won't really notice any pixelation at all. And since it will be a cinematic experience you should be sitting at a reasonable distance from the screen anyway.
I have a projector and you can only notice pixelation if you walk up to the screen from a foot away. I'd go for a projector over a plasma screen any day. (assuming you have a dedicated room for it that is).

oops...
Look please don't get upset, it was not a personal assult on pj owners, imo the strong vibrant deep rich colours and sharp image from a very good plasma have a more visual impact on screen. I appreciate that pj to can have good colour rendering too but I feel it's still not as good as a plasma. But I would certainly agree that the fun factor of a pj is a big bonus. If your gonna build a HC then having a big image is a must.
We can argue about this all day long but at the end of it, it's just personal opions... so each to his own.

Well colour rendering varies greatly from pj to pj. But I assure you that if you had a plasma and a projector in the same room and your pj projected an image a foot bigger than the plasma, you'd end up just watching the pj most of the time.
