Newbie Requires Advice

Sorry if this is a bit repetitive - but I've been reccommended to ask for help on here. My parents and I are just starting to think about Freeview and DVD recording etc.

I don't know where to start. My parents have a VCR and a TV. They want freeview, and a DVD recorder, with the possibility of a Harddrive thing as well (can't remember the technical name). It would be useful to be able to record something whilst watching something else. I presume I would need a twin tuner receiver??? Some advice please. How many of what sort of outputs do I look for?

In my room, I am looking for a new TV, freeview and a good DVD recorder for recording what I've taken with my camcorder. Also, some way of transferring VCR tapes to DVD's would be useful, and my VCR has stopped working!

Your help, advice and tips would be useful to me.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel

Hi
What exactly do they want to do? Do they want to be able to keep most stuff permanently or do they want to just watch things when it suits them; a few days or weeks later; or an element of both?

To explain the reason for my previous question a little more. There are no twin digital (Freeview) tuner models that also have a DVDR at present.
So the choice is down to a box with a DVDR but you can only record the digital channel you are watching or a hard drive recorder without a DVDR that can record and watch two digital channels at the same time time.
Indeed some Twin tuner HDD recorders can record two at the same time while you are watching a previous recording. The Humax and the Topfield can do even more but I will not complicate things any more by going into that at this stage.
You can obviously with a single tuner recorder still watch whatever the TVs tuner can receive. Analogue if it only has an analogue tuner or another digital station if it has a digital tuner.
Basically you need one digital tuner somewhere for each station you are either watching or recording.
