Nearing the end of my patience with 2807...

Hi
Since I got my 2807 I've had endless trouble.

The first problem was with SkyHD over HDMI. There would be no picture for 2/3 minutes, and then the amp would click a lot, and then it would work.

The amp went into the dealer, who did the recommended changes, as suggested by Denon, to resolve it. This made it worse, and it took even longer to get the picture on screen

S, it went back in last week, and was returned to factory settings. I then connected Sky HD via component video, to solve it.

This was fine for about 2 hours. Now, everytime i switch everything on, I get a green picture. This lasts about 2/3 minutes, and then, the screen goes black for 5 seconds, and I get a proper picture

Is the amp just faulty? Im nearing the end of my patience with it now really!

Should I ask for a replacement, or are there known issues with the 2807? Id be willing to upgrade to a 3806 if this would solve it!

Any advice much appreciated!

I'd change it.
There are known issues about the handshaking in HDMI when using the 2807.
I'm fairly sure the 3806 is ok.
That is, I haven't heard of any problems and I've actually seen people say the 3806 is fine.

Send it back, the sale of goods act clearly states, fit for purpose, and of merchantable quality. Clearly yours isn't.

Re: Nearing the end of my patience with 2807...

We had very similar problems when linking Sky HD through a 2807 to an Infocus IN78 all via HDMI, the 2807 wouldn't lock onto the picture and made the dreaded clicking noises yet Sky was fine when connected direct.

After swapping Sky boxes, 2807's and HDMI leads it turned out that you have to reassign the digital audio inputs after assinging the HDMI inputs as when the HDMI's are assigned the audio defaults to this connection rather than the optical from the Sky HD box and for some reason this stopped the 2807 from syncing properly. Since this has been changed everything has been perfect. (fingers crossed!)

Re: Nearing the end of my patience with 2807...

well after a little bit more research today, ive found when I turn the amp on, regardless of source, everything is green for the first 2 minutes.
So the dealer said to take it in, they will try it, and if it does it, I can have another 2807 instead
Hopefully that will resolve everything!

Sounds odd. Mine takes about 5 seconds to come on and it isnt green to start with!

Re: Nearing the end of my patience with 2807...

It might be an issue with your particular model of tv. I think there are some which are problematic. If the amp works back at the retailers, it may be worth trying a different model (as suggested).

Re: Nearing the end of my patience with 2807...

In work we have a largish HDMI distribution system (about 50 sets) and the handshaking each morning takes about a minute through all the distributors, then you have some TVs that work right away whilst others (specifically Toshibas) are green/purple for about another 30 seconds, so it is not necessarily an amp issue.

Re: Nearing the end of my patience with 2807...

well.... the dealer agreed the amp was faulty after hooking it up to a Pioneer set in the shop, and getting the same colour issues
They then replaced it for me, with another 2807. Guess what?! I have new issues! lol
Now, when I switch to any component source, it takes 5 minutes (thats correct, I timed it) to get any image on screen.
If the other amp had done this I'd suspect my TV, but it was instantly on with component, just the coliurs were messed up!

I am going to ask them to come and visit, and see for themselves I think!

lol, nope cant say I have. Im so, so disappointed with my experience of Denon amps now. They look great, but the performance Ive seen has been such a let down

Im going to ask them if I can go to the 2806, but its another £200

Failing that, a refund, and Ill buy another make!

Re: Nearing the end of my patience with 2807...

this all sounds a bit odd to me ... is there a common factor in all this? do you use the same hdmi? (possibly fautly) or being connected to something with a fault is causing damage to the amp maybee????

It's a shame they didn't try the second one in the shop first. Maybe that would be the way forward.
