Hi guys

I was hoping you could advise me.

I ran a bt speed availability test on our broadband connection which said we were likely to get a 2mb connection which is alot more than were currently on. (BT Yahoo with a 512kbps connection). So my dad ordered the BT Total Broadband option 3 package which was received today. Followed the instructions and got the hub connected.
However the speed is the same as it was before. This has been confirmed by using various online speed testers.
I understand there is a 10 day period where the line is tested? is this the case? Is the speed likely to increase over the 10 days or are we going to be stuck with a measly 512kbps connection?

Thanks in anticipation

Chris

You will probably be stuck with the 512 untill they either update the line or exchange. I had the same with my dads set up. they can only get 1mb bue to distance from box and age of line or something.

If you still in a position to cancel bt do it. I was with Pipex and then Bulldog, both gave me a a 8meg connection. I then changed to Bt as it kept all my bill in the one place, I was told i could get upto 8meg, in the first week i complained i was only getting 2-3meg and told me about the ten day line test, that was 2 months ago, and since then i have been trying to cancel my contract. so be aware of Bt.

The 10 day line test. I take it that starts from today?. How can you tell if the line is being tested?. How long during that that period should i have to wait before the speed changes? If after the 10 days nothing has changed what are the options?

1) Connect via ethernet, not wireless
2) use the test socket - must be connected for atleast 3 days to the test socket.
3) do a speed test here: http://speedtester.bt.com/ and look at your IP profile
