If the PC is running Windows 98se or later then you can just add a cheap USB card such as This (http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/62616).

Does you motherboard have any PCI slots (usually white in colour)? If so you could fit one of these:

I did a quick search on Google and the only cables I could find went the other way - i.e. connecting via USB to a printer with a paralell port...

An alternative from ebuyer does seem to state Windows 98 support:
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/22056
The manufacturer's site again states Windows 98 support but shows a slightly different picture from ebuyer:

If only running the origional version of 98 then you can still add USB, well maybe
Windows98 does not include any drivers for OHIC (USB etc) ports*, so you need to get them from the MS web site. However I have done this in the past and have had nothing but trouble with the ports. Upgrading the OS to 98se or later has always got them working without any further problems. Try it and you might be lucky but I know I'm not the only one to have problems with the origional copy of 98.
* I have seen mention that some later copies of Win98 (with SP1) have included OHIC/USB drivers so no download is needed.
