Which Sub?

CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THE FOLLOWING:

I will have around £1500 to spend on a sub or two in about 8 weeks.

What would be the best Sub/s option for me when factoring in the following:

I have wooden flooring which is not on a solid floor. There is a 4ft gap below. This causes boom but thats something I am trying to sort out.

My room is 5x5.5m ish

I love low bass and lots of it + decent punch.

-------

Should I consider x1 Velo. CHT-15 or one HGS-12/15 (slightly over my budget)?

What is the build quality of the CHT-15 like compared to the HGS or REL ST.?

or

x2 Rel Strata III?

-------

Thanks.
GJC.

Also look at the m&k mx150 and Monitor Audio FB212. although, 2 strata IIIs sound (feel!) like fun

The 212 uses isobaric 12" drivers, so goes lower than the REL Strata, but I think the REL is more controlled and precice so I'd go for a pair o them, matey

I'd say you've got to be looking at the Velodyne HGS range - servo control, very low distortion and 1250 watts!

Eric can get the HGS12 for £1700 - only a couple of hundred quid over your budget. I was looking to get the 12 but then the 15 is only another £150 so I went for that - it should be with me later this week so I'll post some thoughts on it in due course.

The question you have to ask yourself is - do you want to spend £1500 or less and get something very good or are you willing to spend a few hundred more to own one of the finest subs on the planet?

Get an HGS12 or 15 and you'll never need to upgrade it.

Matt.

Without doubt I would recommend the HGS-15. Listen to this and go listen to other subs. You will be a converted in faster than you can say holy *****.
M&K push pull range is not even a fair contest.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I am lucky in that my wife has slowley grown to accept my love for Subs and it is she that will be buying it for me But £1700 may be too much for her.

I would love to hear the HGS 15. Can anyone recommend an outlet that will have this range so that I can get a fix - I mean audition.

A couple more questions is there a decent size pic available of one these so that I can picture it in bed.... I mean in the Lounge.

And How heavy is it?

Many thanks,

GJC

GJC.
You could go and have a look @ Eric's HGS-18 to see what your 15 maybe like..
The dimensions for the HGS-15 are:

H/W/D 19.5"x 18"x 17"

Apparently it weighs 95lbs..(what's that about 40+ kilos?)

Hard to find a pic of it mate......
I'll have a hunt around for you later on.......

Here's a pic of the HGS-18....So the 15 would be a tad smaller..

Ignore the rugs & flowers!!!!!

Jase never a truer word spoken. I knew the Q400 was a light weight

Now all I need to do is convince the wife that its worth that bit extra!.

Shouldnt be difficult if I can get her to a demo and take her favourite (Korn) Cd. Her taste not mine.

Korn! You´ll be able to blow your eardrums and pop your internal organs at the same time with Velodyne.

Yep - THere's surprisingly a lot of bass on the Untouchables album.

What modern CD do you recommend for demoing this Sub apart from Korn. I would like a Decent quality CD with some <25hz material.

-----

Destiny's Child - Bootylicious is a good track for 30-40hz (very peaky) All you need there is a ported sub tuned to that level and BANG there goes the double glazing.

Faithless - Reverence/Irreverance is pretty good. Though not sure how low it actually goes bass wise. Just got my mits on Sasha´s album - airdrawndagger this morning, should be good.

The Prodigy - Fat of the Land is another good one.

I used Moby - 18 to give my Velodyne a work out, got a nice balance of bass, low stuff and higher up the range.

You probably want some organ music for the really low stuff!! Not my cup of tea though!!

PRodigy Excellent.

I have their first Album - Out of Space. I will get Fat of the Land

ORgan Music isnt my Cup of tea either.

All I want is a good demo CD something that can show me what the HGS15 is made off.
