Can you have speaker stands without destroying the carpet?
Hi guys am finally coming round to the decision that i should have speaker stands but from my understanding which is admittedly very little, all speaker stands come with spikes on the base. Well from the point of view of wanting to preserve the carpet if possible, is it possible to protect it? Just to let you know, I have seen these kind of flat circular things which fit under each spike but my budget is very restricted at the moment and 12.99 for each speaker is a little expensive when I am going to be spending around 70.00 on speaker stands and have recently spent some 240.00 on new components also.
When my numbers come on the lottery i can remedy that though
Thanks for your help in advance.

The idea of spikes is they do not destroy the carpet.

Re: Can you have speaker stands without destroying the carpet?
I had spikes in my mission speaker stands and they didn't mark the carpet at all.
As long as the unit itself isn't too heavy, added to the fact that if you have 4 spikes, each spike is only 'carrying' 25% of the total weight.
Might also depend on the depth of your carpet pile.
Every now and then, move the stand and run the hoover over the whole area. This should agitate the pile and prevent holes.
Might just have to suck it and see.
The other alternative is to place 2p pieces under each spike, but that's meant for protectors when on laminate flooring.

Re: Can you have speaker stands without destroying the carpet?
K thanks I understand now, this is probably a stupid question but...when my speakers are actually placed on speaker stands i should feel less vibration on the floor right? Just to explain my speakers are currently placed on my shelf and are sat on very small spikes....however I know there is a massive improvement when speakers are sat on decent speaker stands.

Re: Can you have speaker stands without destroying the carpet?
The spikes have a tiny surface area at the point so they right through the carpet and don't make a mark.

It seem most of the improvement suggested by people placing your speakers on stands simply have to do with letting you locating your speaker to the correct height, distance from surrounding furniture and walls. Placing a pair of speakers directly on a shelf could add colouration since the shelf will act as a sounding box. Like wise if you place them on the floor it will resonant at its natural frequency too. I suppose the only way you could prevent that would be to suspend them in mid air without touching any surface. However, the very fact you try to play some music in there will set the room to give out its own funny sound based on the room shape and size. Hmmm.... this is getting too complicated, life is complicated already and we really want to play some tunes to relax.

Re: Can you have speaker stands without destroying the carpet?
If you're worried, try a couple of granite chopping boards from Tesco and stand your speakers on them. £10 each.
