Well,
Hope I have bought the correct components after reading all the threads on here. :smashin:
Have just bought the following :
Thermaltake Bach VB8001BNS w/Media Lab - HTPC Case
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
Zalman CNPS9500AT Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler, Socket 775
MSI GeForce 7600GT 256MB Diamond Plus, PCI-Express, 2xDVI, HDMI, HDCP, ViVo
Tagan Easycon 480W, Modular Cables, 120mm Fan, 4xSATA, ATX/EPS, SLI, 20/24pin
Just hope it does all I'm looking for.
Need to sell my old MCE PC to cover some of the costs now LOL

for ts. playback it looks good to me, h.264 playback should be fine too but im no expert im in the process of buying a system to but i think ill buy a ready made one, also with me it doesnt matter what it looks like as it will be under the stairs, how much did that little lot cost you mate?

Just under the £850 mark
Always like building my own so I can update in the future.

More than capable of HD playback.
All you need now is a proper high quality speaker system. :grin:

That machine will play HD-DVDs in its sleep - you'll be at 20% CPU or so for VC1, maybe 50% for h264.
That's at stock speed of course, and given your choice of components I suspect a touch of overclocking might be likely :smashin:

Zorg how much did you pay for the MSI GeForce 7600GT 256MB Diamond Plus?
Woudln't the Asus EN7600gt been cheaper?

you might need a hard drive or 2 ;)
also i might be worth investing in a decent fan controller (internal or pci bracket mounted as i didn't think the zalman was all that quiet - i now run it a 5v which means i can hear myself fart when the sounds not on. as for the msi is that a fan or heatsink cooled version - gpu fans can also get pretty noisy.
as for the psu - not sure if this one is or not but you can get some that will control fan speed based on temp. nice setup though.
