Extending an IR signal with just a cable?

I've finally had enough of the noise generated by my Xbox 360 while playing games, so I have decided to put it in another room. This is fine as the room is next to the room with the TV and there is already a pipe going through the wall for the network cable.

So I will put the component and optical cable from the 360 through the pipe in the wall, and the wireless controllers will work fine of course. But I have a 360 media remote which I won’t be able to use anymore. Now what I am looking for is a simple cable with a IR receiver at one end and a transmitter at the other end; it doesnt need to be wireless as the distance is only 50cm or so, I can put the receiver next to the TV and the transmitter next to the IR receiver on the front of the 360.

Any idea what I would need, I’ve seen a lot of bulky sender receiver jobbies around, but surely all I need is a cable.
