For the money I think it is - I have had one for quite a while now, these are the reasons
1, If you are buying brand new and definately want crt then you have piece of mind with the warranty and a superb picture for the money
2, They are small as far as crt's go
3, They are quiet
4, Although it may not be the best they come with a line doubler something all crt's need
They must be fed with the best quality source you can afford paticularly the cabling and they must be setup properly. If you are prepared to go second hand then there are some good deals out there with units with larger 8" tubes.

How would the Ellie XS2000HT compare to something like a Barco 701S?
Thanks.

They would be very similar the Barco has a beafier powerrsupply so the picture suffers less from bright changes.
The Barco uses an entirely digital chasis. So you don't have to oppen the case to play with dynamic convergence. The Barco has memory blocks to allow different aspect contol.
The Barco has component,RGB, s-video and component as inputs.
The Ellie will be a new projector with the advanges that brings.

He'll have to answer but I'd guess an 8" Electrostatic or Electromagnetic projector...
ie Barco 801 or 808....

I'd think you'd get a fairly decent 801 for £2000-£2500......and I'm sure I've seen 808 units for under £4000.....

Yep. saw an 808S today with 1300 hours and an asking price of £3500.
I've gone for a 701S though. Suit me just perfectly and what an amazing improvement on my previous LCD. Wow!

Neil,
Just had an BG808 from Roland. It would just come into your budget but I did have a quadscan at the same price. I understand he has afew of these units at the moment. The only thing I would say against it is the sheer size. Don't get me wrong, it does the job better than any other PJ I've seen and in the room it's in is not too obtrusive but in a smaller room it could upset the wife:-)
Speak to Roland. He's a great guy and will sort you out depending on what you are wanting to do!
Cheers

Congratulations on your decision to purchase and good luck with your new baby!
Do keep us up to date on how you find Barco set up, access to resources (manuals etc.)

You sound a bit bitter there Roland?
If you're in the mood for PM'ing then how about some details of these 808s you've got (and an up-to-date list of any others perhaps).
Regards,
Ian Guinan
