benq w100 setting
Hi all, just got my projector last week, anyone can recommend what's the prefered setting for best picture quality? I am seating at around 4 meters away from the screen which is 92inch, is it too near?

Re: benq w100 setting
Thats about the same as we view our benq from and looks fine to me. Have found that the pj exposes the quality or lack of input signals far more than lcd tv.

Re: benq w100 setting
I'm sitting 11'6" back from a 106" screen, so the distance is more of a personal preference. \
Even sitting that close to that size screen, I still don't see any SDE..
Your projector settings will need to be adjusted to the type of screen you're using..
To give you a starting point, here are my current settings...
Eco. lamp
Cinema mode
T2
Brightness 52
Contrast 51
Colour 41
Tint 45
Hope that helps...

Re: benq w100 setting
Mine are:
Input - Component
Mode - Cinema
lamp - Eco mode
IRE - 7.5 (dispite what manual says and it makes a big difference, try it)
Colour temp - T1
Brightness - 36 (gives deepest contrast) up to 50 (depending on how dark the film is)
Contrast - 50
Colour - 50
Tint - 50
Gives fantastic 3D feel and brilliant colour inc. flesh tones

No, I watch a mix. I was interested to see if there was a difference and looked long and hard to find one. I was anticipating using 7.5 with NTSC and 0 for PAL, but not so. All look noticably better with 7.5 there is so much more depth. Try it with T1 instead of your normal T2 and maybe reduce brightness a little. Mine is so 3D now, with asteriods and stars on the start sequence of Toy Story 2, it looks as though they are just hanging there, as if they could be picked off the screen and I've also noticed that previously illusive (to me, with PJs) deep luster on metal objects such as armour that I only ever saw on a TV before, plus lights and fire have taken on an added luminance. BTW I use a Draper Luma screen with 1.1 gain. It is I guess what you would call off white in colour.

Re: benq w100 setting
I tried 7.5 IRE with T1 and didn't like it. I will try it again with TS 2 as I have it.
edit.
I tried R1 TS2 and it does look good with T1 and IRE 7.5 in that asteroid sequence however, the rest of the film and other DVD's I tried were too dark (not too light as how I remember). It was too dark for me for both PAL and NTSC. I lost detail in the background.
I am using a blackout blind but it is also off white.

Re: benq w100 setting
The settings can vary for each situation..
It depends on the type of screen, connection type and image size..
The DVE dics is what you need to do your calibrations..
These are my settings for a 106" white vinyl screen, using component connection, and will give you a starting point..
Lamp in eco mode
Cinema
T2
Brightness..53
Contrast....51
Colour.......41
Tint..........46
These settings are close to what I calibrated using DVE but also adjusted to my personal preference..

Re: benq w100 setting
okay thanks i will see what i can do about this as I only have AVIA.
because i could not celling mount it had to put it all the way in the back of the room inverted on a tv stand hence the 126" screen.
What about detail in very dark scenes, can u see it ? this is my main concern because i play a lot of games and if I hit a dark scene I cannot see details.

Re: benq w100 setting
Generally shadow detail is very good in movies with my settings...
I can't say how it would be for for games as I don't use them, but I would think that they would show shadow detail similar to movies..
If you're not getting good shadow detail, then try increasing brightness..

Re: benq w100 setting
ok i will test this and get back with some feedback ,thx
maybe its because you have a screen with a gain or dont you, and your screen is 106", mine is 126" and i project on a blank wall

Re: benq w100 setting
My screen has a gain of 1.2 which isn't much over a white wall.
If your projecting a 126" image, then if anything I would have expected your blacks to be a bit washed out..
Sounds like your current settings for brightness are way too low..

Re: benq w100 setting
yes. i increased it up to 75 and its better now, the blacks are great, i like them a lot, what i dislike is that i dont see any detail in black areas. the brightness up high is on, but i want to lower it a little and find a good balance between contrast and brighness.
also , i connected it to the laptop today using vga - vga (dvi adaptor) and i can see i can only set 4:3 connection using the PC, is there any way i can go around this, maybe using Powerstrip ?
