VP50 connection help

VP50 has arrived, and I thought I'd trial it through my old LCD (Sony KLV-17HR2) until the plasma arrives. LCD display is 1,280x768, but the old TV has only SCART input, which it says is RGB in the manual. When I try and connet up the VP50 I cannot get the menu to appear.

I'm connecting via the BNC analog output setting the colour to RGB and the sync to composite via a SCART-to-RCA RGBS cable I have ready for the PVR and some cheapo RCA-BNC adaptors I bought to test the thing.

The best I can describe the picture is like a demented zebra crossing. I've tried every output setting in the menu, and it certainly does not like any progressive scan (giving me no picture) and all the other outputs give me variations of the zebra.

Any thoughts welcome.

Re: VP50 connection help

Hi,

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure that a cable intended for carrying an RGB signal from the scart end to the RCA end can be reversed. The pins on the scart socket may be different for input and output. From what I can recall the video-in and video-out pins are different, and these are probably what you are using for sync. Thus your TV may not be syncing properly.

But I could be completely wrong.

Cheers, Roman

Re: VP50 connection help

the BNC inputs on the VP50 are for progressive & HD signals only, use the RCA component inputs with the SCART to RGBS lead and it should work just fine.

You're completely right. The 4 phonos are wired for the R, G, B and composite outputs from the SCART socket (of the PVR) you can't reverse it.

I'm surprised you're even getting a zebra.

Re: VP50 connection help

Many thanks for clearing this up. I think it sums up why SCART is such a stupid connector!

Roll on the plasma...

I might get a giraffe.

Re: VP50 connection help

With or without the sync pin wired in the correct direction, you are trying to send a progressive signal to an interlaced scart input!! Not possible.

The TV would have to have progressive component inputs, or a VGA connection or a HDMI input for you to be able to plug a VP50 into it.
