There is a sky dish attached my house already, would DIY sky+ be cheaper?

Hello,

I moved into my house a couple of years ago and the previous owners left their sky dish attached on the front. At the time I decided I wouldn't be using it ever and cut off the coax on the inside of the house and filled in the hole. The cable is still present on the outside of course. I've now decided that I'm tired of Homechoice and am considering Sky+.

Sky website tells me it will cost me £100 for the box, £60 for the install and £10pm. I realise I can't change the £10pm but considering I've already got the dish in place would I just need to replace the coax, buy a 2nd hand sky+ box and then ring sky, would that be cheaper?

Cheers
Sun

If you only had one cable - the original owners probably had normal Sky not Sky+ (Sky++ requires two cable feeds).

So you will probably need to change the lnb (bit in front of the dish) for a quad lnb and fit two cables from the dish. Quad lnbs are readily available from ebay etc (be sure you purchase the correct type for a Sky minidish if that is the type of dish you have)

If you are after the Free channels only (Freesat) with Sky+ recording you may have great difficulty finding someone on Sky customer service phones who will firstly agree that it is possible (IT IS) and secondly knows how to set up such an account.

Thanks for the advice davemurgatroyd2, I would ideally be interested in the standard version of Sky channels and not just the fta ones. Bearing in mind the additional kit I'll have to buy - quad lnb, additional coax, sky+ box, do you think there is much of a saving to be made here, if it's going to be an equivalent price or not far off I might as well pay Sky.

Are you sure it £160 to join sky.I just looked at the website and its free instalation and box and £10 free credit if you join online.

Unless you were an existing customer ,in which case can't you get somebody else to join for you that lives at your house.

afraid so, Sky+ is £160 but normal Sky is free. From what I've read as well I've just missed out on a refer a friend promo they ran over Christmas which meant free install and box.

Sounds like he is a new subscriber - so they will do a much better deal than £160

http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skyco...ipment/skyplus

As you can see from the above link SKY+ is £99 for new subscribers and free installation.

but in the install column it says

FREE"

"When you subscribe to Multiroom (otherwise £60)

I'm not getting multiroom so therefore it's £60?

ring them up and haggle - generally new customers can drive a very hard bargain (unlike existing customers).
