Picture breakup with bright scenes - any ideas what the problem is?

I have a Sky box (Panasonic TU-DSB31) with a Free to View card.

The picture quality is generally very good, but on Channel 4 and S4C, when the picture contains large areas of bright colours (especially white), the picture always breaks up and the sound turns into a series of clicks and gaps for a second or two.

A guaranteed way for it to go wrong is when the image on screen has a white background (this happens on several adverts) or where (say) the top third of the picture is showing blue sky.

Signal Strength and Quality are both very high (between 80% and 100%), and it goes wrong in all types of weather.

I never get the problem with any of the BBC or ITV channels.

Can anyone think what the problem might be, and why it is Channel 4 and S4C that experience the problem so much?

Thanks in advance
Geoff

Well known fault. Set the output to "PAL" instead of "RGB" in the "Picture" menu. If you don't like the poorer picture, you could either get the Digibox repaired or replaced.

Just tried this and I have had no picture breakup since! Thanks for your quick response.

As a matter of interest, is this a fault that only occurs with the TU-DSB31, or can it potentially happen on any digibox?

You could also try lowering the contrast setting in "Services" "System setup" "Picture settings" when using rgb output.

It is quite a common "fault" (particularly but not only on Plasma and LCD TVs) that the video output is overloading the video circuits in the TV which is why the contrast level is adjustable. It occurs on all makes of Sky didgiboxes (as well as other types of satellite receiver)
