Getting Sky Digital Abroad

Im living in Belgium and planning on getting a Sky digital setup over here. In order to avoid the the gratly overpriced local people that arrange and set it up for you though, I was hoping to use my parents address in the UK to get a cheap digibox, which I could then bring over to Belgium and set it up with a dish (which I already have). My question is, will this idea work? Can I simply call sky when I am back in England at my parents place and tell them I wish to order a digibox and card, which once delivered I could then take back to Belgium? Any comments or ideas on how best to go about this or what to say to sky? I have read about lots of people doing something similar if they have a UK address, but since Sky is already installed at my parents' UK address would this still work?

Thanks!

You could probably get a box and card on Ebay. Then, at your parents, ring Sky and get the card paired to the box. Take back to Belgium and plug it in. In theory, that should work.

The only issue is where the subscription is charged to. You would probably have to add it on to your parents subscription as a multiroom. And you would have to have the same package as they've got.

Re: Getting Sky Digital Abroad

You won't get a usable subscription card off eBay but you could get a Digibox. Then ask Sky for a "second hand subscription" based on your name and your parents' address. Once you've signed the contract they'll send the card to your parents so they should get it within a week of posting the contract.

You'd have to think up some bullsh;t story about why you want a separate (expensive) subscription instead of multiroom. You could say that your flat is a separate annexe without a phone line.

Obviously you can't have "multiroom" because you can't keep your Digibox plugged into your parents phone line!

But Sky won't know unless they check !!
I moved house recently and wanted to take my Sky subscription with me, but my parents wouldn't have Sky for about 2 weeks - until they got it installed.
I rang Sky and they let me run my multiroom between the 2 addresses until my folks got theirs installed.

Admittedly, a slightly different scenario to this one, but it proves the multiroom would work.

I don't think they check everyones. I think it is a random selection.
My folks have got multiroom and only 1 box is connected to a phone line. Sky have not been in touch to tell them to plug the second box in.

I think there are other posts on here where people have said they've not had their box in for months and have had no problems. But, it is all to do with luck !

Re: Getting Sky Digital Abroad

Perhaps if the OP stated if he wanted a subscription package or just Freesat it may help.

Re: Getting Sky Digital Abroad

Hi Guys,
Its a subscription that I want, rather than just freesat. I think I may do what ws suggested and get second hand box off ebay and then call sky and try to get a subscrption card only.....I just need a good story that I can give them for wanting a seperate subscription, rather than multiroom....

Re: Getting Sky Digital Abroad

a j carpenter,
So you managed to get a second card delivered to a UK address that already had a sky system installed? How did you manage to convince them that it was a new card/account that you wanted rather than just adding multiroom to the existing system?

There should be no problems getting a new second account at any address in the UK - after all there are millions of multi occupation houses. Multiroom will work for up to 3 or 4 months maximum without both boxes being connected to a phone as EVERY box (on multiroom subscriptions) are ordered to phone home every month and after 2 or 3 "no calls" you will get "threatening" letters and then an automatic increase on your direct debit to 2 (or more) full subscriptions.
