Any A1/XA1 owners tempted to get XE1 for potentially excellent R2 SD upscaling ?

I have an A1. Bought it knowing E1 wouldn't have 5.1 analogue out, no regrets. I must admit , I am interested in seeing XE1's R2 SD upscaling abilities. I believe the XE1 is not available yet, but any comments ?

Well I think if there's going to be a way of hacking the Xe1 for multi-region, then alot of people will jump at this opportunity to reduce the number of boxes. Many people historically have stated they'll be keeping their dvd players specifically for SD playback, but with the Xe1 this may be a moot point.

Glad I sold my Pioneer 868 when I did

Re: Any A1/XA1 owners tempted to get XE1 for potentially excellent R2 SD upscaling ?

I am interested in getting a DVD player with good upscaling which can also play HD DVDs. The XE1 looks like the ideal candidate.

I have HDMI 1.1 input on my PHD8 plasma, The XE1 Specifications says
Quote:
Requires viewing with TVs or monitors and equipment compliant with Deep Colour feature based on HDMI 1.3. Some TVs or monitors may not be compatible.
Would this cause problems for me?

A good point, as you could be seriously put out but my guess would be there could be some backwards compatibility with some TVs though Tosh may not want to go on the record with this should they get anything wrong. I think you would have to ask Panasonic. I would have to ask Pioneer re my 6th gen 506XDE plasma. Does anyone have a definitve answer ?
