Hi
Hopefully ive got this is the right forum, if not feel free to move it.
Some time ago I used to use the intervocative software to keep track of my collection, I found that a hell of a lot of barcodes were not recorded into their database so I left it, Recently someone told me about DVD Aficionado and again, there are lots of movies that do not have the barcodes against them so you have to search then manually trawl through a list. Additionally there were a fair few items that didnt even show in a search.
That aside I was wondering what other people use? are these two the only two options for keeping track of your DVD in this way or is there a better company? From what i see in people signatures Intervocative seems to be the most popular, the cover shot you get is a bit ropey but if i remember rightly you can subscribe and get a high res image instead, does anyone subscribe and get this high res image? is it worth it?
thanks
Steve

The Intervocative upgrade is well worth the price (it's a one-off lifetime upgrade) and also ensures you don't get any advertising. There are the occasional covers that are still low-res, presumably because nobody's scanned them in at a good enough res, but most are much improved. It's certainly worth the small asking price, particularly since the main version is free which for such a powerful catalogue system is VERY generous, particularly when it includes the built-in ability to store your collection online at a public URL that others can look at (see my sig for mine).
The down-side to the program is the lack of upgrades but I guess with no income that's to be expected. I think it's three years now since they first posted that the beta of the pocket PC application would be available "in a few weeks", and there's been a "Sync with pocket PC" menu item that does nothing in the application for years that's never done anything.
As for the "missing titles" problem, I've only had a problem with British titles. I guess the problem is that there aren't enough of us contributing data. I've been pleasantly surprised with non-British HD-DVDs though - not one of the 90 I've keyed in hasn't been there on the database.
With the British titles I often find that unless it's a Top 5 title it's a week or two after they've been released that the details become available. Unfortunately the noirmal "automatically update my local copy" doesn't seem to work for me. But I find that if I keep uploading my collection (update my profile) it then seems to catch on to the fact that details have been updated/images are now available for titles I registered before the details were available and prompts me correctly with all the updated titles, so I've got into the habit of once a week uploading my collection again using the "Update my profiler".
UPDATE: Ignore the reference to my collection being in my sig. The mods took away my sig because they decided that it contained links to "rival" sites in violation of the T&C. Sorry!

Have a look at this software package:
http://www.collectorz.com/
You can install, try out and use the full product up to the limit of 50 DVD entries per DB file (with their Movie Collectorz product) and see what you think before deciding to buy. Updates are released regularly.
Amazon used to offer a discount on Collectorz licenses, so maybe have a look around to see if there are currently any discounted ways to get Collectorz software.
