Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

All,
Arcam will be exhibiting at the Bristol Sound & Vision Show on the 23rd to 25th February (Location: Ground Floor, Rome 1).

Personally I'd love to see/hear a DV79, AVR350 and DV139 (Out of my budget but keen for a demo).

I'd love to have a chat with an Arcam rep in order to find out what's in the upcoming year and beyond, hopefully with some info ok to put up on the Arcam forum here.

Anyone going and if so what in particular are you hoping to see?

Dan.

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

Am going on the Friday (4th year running) with some mates, including Transient Wolf. Glad to see Arcam have finally got on the ground floor!

Gotta see the DV139 but logic tells me to hold out for an Arcam HD player (2008?). Then again, when has common sense ever come into it!

Also it's always a pleasure to visit the Wilson Benesch room, although I've just invested in some awesome PMC's so no desire to change.

They are not likely to tell you very much. Only today I received information on some new products being launched soon which I did not expect at all nor had I been given any indication that they were coming. I will let you you more when I can.

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

If I had to guess, it may be a replacement for the AVP-700 since the Canadian distributor seems to be blowing out the AVP-700 / P1000 combo for $3900 CDN - taxes included!

Can't understand why they would replace the pre pro though as the ONLY worthwhile improvement I can see them implementing is the processing of audio via HDMI, but given Arcam's stance on inferior audio quality via HDMI due to jitter, I can't see them doing this.

Anyone have any other guesses?

Wow, AVR280 sounds good. Looks like they progressively adding HDMI to their Diva range I guess having started with AVR350 and now AVR280. Wonder what the AVR280 will have about the AVR250.....

Cheers Crusty for the info

Dan.

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

I have full spec sheets for both products, but cannot say anything else until it has been agreed I can do so.

That's fine. I'll take a complete guess and reckon 2 in, 1 out 1.3 HDMI, 10 or 20w extra a channel and maybe a 2nd analogue in and an extra component, but I'll see what it's all about at the show.

Thanks.

Dan.

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

"NEW DV135 upscaling DVD Player" If thats not a typo then I expect its a new Diva with upscaling to replace the DV79.

"and MORE!" The new entry level cd player by any chance?

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

Could anyone explain, in a nice easy-to-follow list, the differences between the DV137 and the DV135, please?

From what I have read there is only one major difference. The Dv137 uses the spearate and much higher performce ABT1010 chipset for it's scaling. The DV135, like the new Solo movie, uses the Zoran 888 chipset for all video processing and scaling. This also means that the DV135 does not scale to 1080P but only 1080i.

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

So as a summary, we now have (Regular retail prices AFAIK):

Old models with no scaling, just regular SD:
Diva DV78 - £700
Diva DV79 - £1000
FMJ DV29 - £1600

New scaling models:
Diva DV135 - £900
Diva DV137 - £1250
FMJ DV139 - £1800

Obviously the older ones are cheaper now around the country

So Arcam have hit on the fact upscaling regular DVD's is the way to go, for now, until the HD DVD wars come to a head.

I've got a DV29 myself, but with an SD plasma, and 1024x576 projector, an upgrade to the newer scaling models is fairly pointless without a major upgrade all round. And that would cost me a fair whack, even with trade-in's with my friendly local dealer

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

Typical - my DV79 is in the post. Should have guessed there was a reason why there was 300 quid of it and the 350/79 bundles were a bit of a give away too in hindsight!
Oh well, that will cure my upgraditis.

Re: Arcam at the Bristol Sound & Vision show.

What would be the advantage of the Solo Movie compared to gettin the DV135 and the AVR 280? The price will be in the same region, and you will have much more flexibility in the future...
