Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
Microsoft have said that the press release had the sigh off from Bob Stuart, I guess Bob forgot to tell the troops that they can stop the denial.

Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
To be honest I was surprised they had announced a player as MLP (Meridian Lossless Packeting) is part of the Blu Ray spec.

Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
Fairly typical and expected. Many announcement have been made in this field only to 'withdrawn' 2 days later. I wonder why? Surely not politics?

Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
Amir is either somewhat high and digging the PR Group into a deeper hole, or this player is in fact happening and John simply isn't in the loop:
Quote:
Well, it seems that he is uninformed about his company's decisions. As you can imagine, press releases do not go out without completely sign off from both sides and extensive reviews at executive levels. I personally worked with Bob on this and I can share with you that he and rest of the company is totally excited about being the first high-end company to support HD DVD and being the pioneer in digital A/V products as they have been. And to my knowledge, have no plans to support BD format.
I have a message into Bob to get the above corrected.

"The Above" he means to have Bob correct is in reference to the comments that this is not happening. It's all rather strange I must say.

Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
I've also heard from someone at CES that Meridian are working on a HD-DVD player, so it appears the avzombie article may be wrong.

Meridian Statement on HD-DVD
Clarifying company position on HD disc technology and products
Quote:
International CES 2007, Las Vegas, NV, January 11, 2007—Leading British audio/video manufacturer Meridian (South Hall 1, Booth 20538) is pleased to make the following statement to clarify the situation regarding reports on its involvement in HD-DVD.
“Meridian is a company renowned for state-of-the-art digital audio and video technology, and we are delighted to be working with Microsoft on the development of high-end players. Meridian has for some time been deeply involved in some of the core audio technology in HD DVD and at CES 2007 we are pleased to announce that we have now joined the HD DVD Promotional Group.
“Consistent with Meridian's product development approach, where standards of performance, particularly for audio and video are exceptionally high, product development takes some time, and for that reason we cannot announce any product-specific details at this time."

PS3's are easily availible in the states now, by all accounts they arn't selling particually quickly. Thats good news at least for people waiting to buy one here, if they are making more than they can sell they will be wanting to move into other teritorys asap.

Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
The first DVD player from Meridian was a badged Toshiba player..Maybe again ?? for HD DVD ?
As a long standing Meridian owner ( I have the 800v4 DVD & 861v4 processor) I know from experience that they take a LONG time to develop units - although I would love a HD DVD upgrade to my 800 - but more important - what about HDMI 1.3 inputs for the 861 & Dolby True HD & DTS master Hd ( assuming their dispute with DTS comes to an end ) - no comment even on this ! I don't see a Meridian upgrade on either front in 2007 - probably 2008/9 but it WILL be worth waiting for !!!

Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
Hi Chaps still stateside and believe it or not i have been working bloody hard secured some great new contacts but thats by the by. Heard far more positive than negative with HD DVD and Meridian and other Brit companies
When i was at Meridian R&D recently they had all of the current HD players in bits so i don't think this will be a rebadge.....

Re: Meridian Refutes HD-DVD announcement
Shouldnt this thread be retitled '......clarifies Hd-Dvd announcement' in view of Press Release ??
I think they will only launch a player when 861 V5 is ready but I hope its soon
so that it can be region free . They wont sell as many otherwise.
