Headphone Specification Information

Hello chaps,

I need to replace the standard earphones for my Creative Zen MicroPhoto.

I'm surfing the net to pick out a decent pair but I am confused about the specs provided on the products. For example:

Frequency response: 15-25,000 Hz
Sensitivity: 101dB SPL/1mW
Impedance: 60 ohms
Distortion: <0.2%

I dont really understand terminology so I'd be very greatful if someone could point towards some info explaining all this?

Hi,

Best bet is take a look on Wikipedia or visit somewhere like Sennheiser (link below) and hover over the tech specs which should give you an explanation;

The one to watch out for is Impedance, the ones you list are 60 Ohms and should be driven OK without an amp - The greater the Impedance the harder the cans are to drive, however, you can have low impedance cans which will not be very efficient and require a decent amp to drive them (like the AKG K701).

Unless you're not going to amp them, or are not considering amping in the future, then I would stay below the 80 Ohm mark - If ear buds, majority of consumer/high-street end stuff will be easy to drive.

I think someone could explain better and poke holes in that but I hope it sort of helps.

I think I'm gonna go for either:

Sennheiser - OMX90 VC Style Clip-on earphones 3.5"

or

Sony - MDR-EX81SLW White Over-Ear Headphones

Not too sure which one yet though...
