HD question
Now that I finally have a HD add on for my Xbox360, my purchasing of regular DVD's has dropped massively.
I believe that movies regardless of their age can be made available in due course on HD due to the higher resolution of film, however, I'm wondering if the same is true of things filmed on video tape (most tv programs).
I'm happy to sell most of my DVD's but have a lot of tv boxsets that I would keep especially if they are not going to be made available on HD.

Re: HD question
Ya would love to get Star Trek NG on HD DVD as i understand it was shot on film but then put on tape and all special effects were done on tape so that would be a problem.
I believe TOS is coming out on HD DVD, would they put in the effort of doing the Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager?, who knows.

Re: HD question
Probably best to keep them. Maybe upscaling will improve anyway.

The effects of TNG, Voyager and DS9 were done on tape. I bet they could do it but would require a lot of remastering andf money spent on it.
I have no intention of upgrading any TV boxsets even when and if I get into HD. I still watch them on my 28" WS TV and have no intention of watching them any bigger. I would only buy HD discs that would benefit from it most.

Re: HD question
Yes the original Star Trek series is scheduled for HD-DVD with all new CGI.
Series 6 of The Sopranos is out on HD-DVD and i will be investing in that.
I wouldn't have thought things like Only fools & Horses etc would be available in HD.
Most of the newish stuff will be , like 24 , Lost etc.

I doubt if any 4:3 will be available in HD.

Strange statement. hottstuff already said 'Star Trek TOS' is slated for HD-DVD release and it is in 4:3. Then there is 'Casablanca' which is already available, and I'm sure 'Gone with the Wind' and many other 4:3 classics will get a run out on one of the HD formats eventually. What has the materials aspect ratio got to do with its suitability for HD.

Absolutely nothing as you've correctly surmised.

Just the size seems a waste. I can't watch my Laurel and Hardy DVD's anymore, or my One Foot In The Grave DVD's. I would like ST Voyager in HD though.

Re: HD question
I would want Columbo, but I would prefer it cropped to 16:9.
