What Hifi Awards Toshiba HD-E1 4/5 Stars

If this has already been posted elsewhere please delete:

What Hifi liked the E1 very much (I am a subscriber so get the mag early). They cite excellent picture and sound quality (the latter in particular). The one point deducted was for the clumsy operating software, the fact that the player crashed several times and the poor remote handset. Also lack of 1080p support was picked up on.

However all in all the review was very favourable. They also state that in their opinion HD DVD has a significant advantage over Blu Ray at this time (based on the players available at this time). They are very eager for the arrival of the XE1.

Good news me thinks.

What was quite amusing was that for partnering the E1 they suggest the Panasonic SA-XR-700 (which was designed to complement the Panasonic BD player). In reviewing that receiver they mention its ability to decode DD+ which (paraphrased) 'is not available on any BD disc that they know of at the moment'.
