How Did they transmit films to our tv 1950's 60's

Forgive me for being dense they say if you do not ask.. you will not know.

Well.. you know in the 1950's they used to show films in the cinema with a man at the back with a projector OK. Perhaps they still do Just shows how much I go.

My question How did the BBC ITV Show films on TV before they had Video machines? How did they manage to transmit these reels of film to all of us on our TV's . I appreciate how TV works. But Just wondering how they would transmit reels of film. Without video machines.

As videotape has been used in television since the mid 1950s, I'd imagine most were shown in this way.
