I don't believe the AVR300 has any sort of specific iPod-connection method. You would therefore need to use a '3.5mm Jack to Stereo dual Phono cable'

Don't get the cheapest cable, but you needn't pay through the nose for one.

QED do the 'J2p' cable which should be sufficient. Connect to an analogue input on the back of the AVR and off you go.

Thank you.

I thought QED did a cable.

Note that there's a couple of different lengths available and the J2P model code can end with '-3' etc indicating length. Make sure you pay attention to the model and description as there's at least 2 lengths.

I've got an ipod docking station with rca, just plug the left and right into a spare input.

Crusty pointed out an Arcam ipod equivenlent to me, but at £125.00 I think its way way too expensive

Was this was the Arcam R Dock?
I expect the phono & S-video outputs from the dock can be connected to any amp but there will be no remote control of the iPod.
A simple universal dock with remote is a much cheaper option although the dock only has 3.5 mm stereo jack & S-video outputs.

There is also the R lead which connects the ipod to the Arcam Solo and allows the solo remote to control the iPod and on screen display on TV.

Thats the route I have gone, but my docking station uses the Ipod conector out of the docking station to stereo left and right, balanced and fixed gain, at a fraction of the cost of the Arcam equivilent

Question Re: Best way to connect an ipod to a AVR300

slightly different question here, but if I were to connect an iPOD / MP3 player to my AVR350, would the easiest, maybe not the best sounding way, to connect it via the AUX input on the front panel?

Thanks,

Stephen

Good idea.
What is the difference between AUX phono pair input in the back and AUX 3.5 mm stereo jack input in the front?

Is this a better quality solution than a jack to phono lead from the jack output on the dock?
Where did you get the ipod to 2 phono connector? Do you have a link?
Thanks,
David

I got it from the ipod web site, i had to ring them and ask as i could not find it. I never tried the 3.5m jack but as i understand going from the base conector of the ipod or same conector on the base unit will give better results becasue it is a balanced and fixed output. The way I have it set is a power supply conected to the base unit, rca to stereo left and right and s/vid to amp for screen control of ipod. i would take a pic but it would mean pulling out all my hifi to get at it and it took me an age to squeeze it all in

Re: Best way to connect an ipod to a AVR300

Hey

Onkyo DSA2 - its universal and has a remote to control ipod and is able to connect (via svhs is it?) to screen if a video ipod.........

A friend has one and for £60 its a pretty decent solution (it charges ipod too)

Hope this may be a contender..........ok it is a bit more than the cost of a lead.......but seems to do a great job for the price.......

hope it helps......

Re: Best way to connect an ipod to a AVR300

OK, I'm in California so I don't know how it applies but being a Mac guy I have an Airport Express plugged into my AVR300 using an optical digital (toslink) cable and stream music from my upstairs computer which has a Base Station and control it in front of my system using my iBook. Or you can skip the upstairs computer and use lap top or whatever in front of your system (kit). It works great. Doesn't really address your question but you get the same result and don't have to keep running to your iPod to change what you're playing.
