Sony NW-HD5 Battery life 10 hours instead of 40hrs

Hey i purchased this a week ago and as soon as i got it i knew there was a volume hack available for it so i removed the volume limit and since i got it the battery life is rubbish it only lasts 10 hours i usually have it blasting out at full volume.. files are encoded at atrac 64 so i know its not a format problem i turne of the volume hack yesterday .. and im going to see in the next 2 days how long the battery lasts

does anyone know if the volume hack affects the model its Sony NW-HD5 30gb Model(limited edition)

Re: Sony NW-HD5 Battery life 10 hours instead of 40hrs

well you've either got a bad battery or an used battery

when i first got mine i reckon i got about 25 hours from a full charge. now after about 18 months it's probably more like 15-20 hours.

i have a mixture of 132 ATRAC and mp3s in all sorts of bitrates.

the 40 hours quoted by Sony is under very strict condition - 64K ATRAC, no stop/start, no shuffling, no cue/review.

i don't think the volume hack has a huge effect on the battery life (stand to be corrected tho)

Re: Sony NW-HD5 Battery life 10 hours instead of 40hrs

I agree with Micaab's first sentence above.

I have had a HD5H since it first came out (about 18 months now) and I still get the same battery life as I have since day 1. I have all my music in ATRAC 64kbps, use the backlight and do not often spend a lot of time switching between tracks. Under these conditions, I get about 30-32 hours between charges and it would probably add an hour or two if I did not use the backlight.

Hi there. I think it is very optimistic to expect 40hrs from an MP3 battery - only with minimal interference and low volume would you get that. I still get 20-22hrs from my HD3 battery. Remember to allow it to fully discharge occasionally, to prevent memory effect, and reduced life - not a guarantee, but it does help....honest!!
