Smile 16/9 MPEG2 video clip Testcard to download - comments!?!

Hi everyone, I've been messing about with making my own testcard DVD like the ones you can buy, but I prefer to 'roll my own' and thought I'd give it a whirl. After trying various video sources, still images and such like I've got something that seems quite usable.

Well it all works well and seems accurate enough to set up a widescreen TV so I thought I'd make a cut down version for others to use.

So if you fancy downloading a 24mb file, unzip it and burn it to DVD you'll have a tool that has 3 x 16/9 anamorphically compressed Widescreen testcards to use and 1 x 4/3 classic BBC 'F' test card. These cards are available as still images (I've tried using still shots of testcards found on the 'net to make a DVD but it wasn't accurate enough)

You'll need to manually set the TV to '16/9 wide' mode to view correctly (except the 4/3 testcard)

Now these are only 10 second clips as MPEG2 takes up lots of space (on my website) but you can quite easily edit this file in your favourite video editor (even Windows XP's video editor should do fine) and stictch together a load of the same short clip to form a nice long usuable clip, or you can simply pause the DVD player while you adjust your TV's geometry.

Click here for the testcard page

PS, the image quality doesn't look too sharp on a PC monitor but looks very usuable on a TV screen when playing from a DVD - well on my DVD/TV setup anyway!

Perhaps you LCD and plasma owners can comment on image quality?

(pps, sorry about the rather blatant ad click begging on the site) lol
