Pinnacle Soundbridge: Crossover cables required?

Hello all,

I have a PC in one room and my audio kit in another. The Pinnacle Soundbridge has been recommended to pipe the sound from the PC to the amp. I do not have Wi-Fi- I have a wired broadband connection from my phone socket to the PC via a D Link box. Do I need Wi Fi to operate the Soundbridge or can I use something called a crossover cable? If so, how can I get hold of a cheap one?

Thanks,

Rich

It will work without wifi, you just need to run a standard network cable (cat5 or cat5e) from the D-Link box (if it is a router) to the Pinnacle

You can get them from pretty much anywhere

If your PC is close enough to your amp, you can just plug it into the soundcard!

No need for a streamer at all!!!

No, they're in two different rooms so I do need the Soundbridge.

The D Link box is an ADSL Modem- don't think it's a router? (Though could be wrong- sorry- complete technical numpty?!)

You can use a crossover cable to connect directly to your PC, and again, they are available pretty much anywhere, from a couple of pounds for a half metre length.

TBH I would suggest getting a all-in-one modem/router, it make life easier in my opinion.

Whats the model number of your D-Link?

It's a DSL-200. Does that help?

Re: Pinnacle Soundbridge: Crossover cables required?

In that case, you have three options:

1) A crossover cable between the computer and Roku/Pinnacle

2) A Wireless network from the computer to the roku via Wireless Access point

3) Lose the USB modem and replace it with a wired/wireless broadband router (using a standard straight-through network cable, or wireless)

Re: Pinnacle Soundbridge: Crossover cables required?

Just to add to that, if you get yourself a modem/router, you could use the Homeplug solution, which turns your electrical wiring into a wired ethernet network. I'm fast becoming a fan of them for static items; the signal is very reliable and robust, and dead easy to set up (you pretty much just plug it in).
