DV 29 -- what resolution...

I am new to all this, so please be gentle if this is a RTFM question... Does my DV 29 upscale to 1080i? If not, what is the output?

TIA

Re: DV 29 -- what resolution...

The DV29 does not upscale at all. It will ouput either 480i or 480p when playing NTSC material and 576i or 576p when playing PAL material.

Again, I'm nw at this, so please bear with me. What happens if I play an HD DVD?

In short it can't. The dv29 is an SD DVD player (one of the best) but will not play HD DVD's.

Re: DV 29 -- what resolution...

as HD becomes more comon, would it he possible to buy an output scaler? Does Arcam make such a product? When the time comes would I do better to simply upgrade to another DVD player?

TIA

Re: DV 29 -- what resolution...

My personal feelings and choice is that until the HD / Blueray market settles and the prices come down a bit I'm sticking to the high quality SD dvd I get from my dv29. I don't really know enough about scalers to help you with those but personally I'm sticking with SD dvd for the time being.

Great. That's pretty much the conclusion I am coming to as I learn more about the state of things. I watched my first movie last night (Little Children -- a remarkable film) and it looked spectacular!

Thanks for the replies.

Best,
