Is this proof that HD-DVD is winning?

Intersting link here that looks at sales positions of the various titles. Looks like HD-DVD is winning to me.

Cheers for the link but these do seem to change almost daily, although I expect his conclusion that HD-DVD is outselling BR is certainly correct.

Re: Is this proof that HD-DVD is winning?

i was reading about amazon ranking, seems that all sorts of factors are involved with how it decides a rank, including how long a piece has been available etc, i will see if i can find it...

I'm sure these things do change pretty rapidly but there is a consistency to the pattern which is very noticable and in HD-DVD's favour.

Re: Is this proof that HD-DVD is winning?

If the Amazon sales figures can be considered a good statistical sample, which I tend to think so, then the figures on that article can be considered indicative alright.

I would really love to see actual sales statistics to include both online and brick&mortar stores. There are actually indipendent research companies who have a more complete and more scientifically thorough statistics on this. But when I googled them, they only make their papers available in pdf at a really steep price - in the $3000 per copy range - targetted to businesses I imagine. Not to ordinary individuals.

Re: Is this proof that HD-DVD is winning?

Can't remember who said it but amazon.com have stopped selling the Blu-Ray version of Superman Returns too. Only the HD-DVD one is available.

Betamax was always the better format but Sony stuffed up selling it the public. On paper Blu-Ray is better but with the players being double the cost of HD-DVD ones, all the delays with the PS3, and the crap quality of the initial discs and titles, I have a feeling that history is going to repeat itself.

This is true. Rich people dont stay rich if they buy expensive stuff they go to netto or aldi etc These stores are there for a reason good items for cheap look at tesco do you buy a can of baked beans from tesco brand for 8p or a branded name for 60p ?

Money talks people like high quality low prices and HD-DVD gives you that.

Sony did not fail selling it to the public - they failed to sell it to the content providers. Betamax failed due to the lack of content due to the expense of authoring. The last thing Blu-ray will fail for is the lack of content - aside from 2 "major" studios, the rest are either exclusively Blu-ray or supporting both.

Betemax / VHS is a not a relevant comparision.

If you need to look at patterns,

The only conclusive thing you can say is that Blu-ray has increased considerably in the last month.

http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/

If you "show all" for the top 10, HD DVD is essentially flat, whereas Blu-ray is increasing at a rapid rate.

http://www.hdgamedb.com/amazon/history.aspx

Look at the last 14 days, i.e. since Christmas and Blu-ray is significantly better than it was.

Blue Ray is catching up with HD-DVD sales figure because Blue Ray started off soooo slowly that the only direction it could go was up.

Not caught up. The blue line actually needs to go above the black line , and stay above it for several weeks to catch up on sales if you think about it.
