Not sure if I have or not - originally (based on specs only and like most people) I was pro-BluRay - can't remember if that was only a year ago though!
Of course we have now seen both in the flesh and HD DVD has put in an incredible performance and really delivered. BluRay has been stumbling to catch up ever since and has been something of a disappointment.

Re: Who's Changed HD-DVD / Blu-Ray Allegiance?
I've gone for both players which was always likely to happen, I couldn't see any early victories a year ago and it seems even less likely now. This way I can choose from the many HD-DVD exclusive titles, get the superior HD-DVD version if it's been released on both formats. Play the superior HD-DVD version on hybrid discs and buy from the many Blu-Ray exclusive titles. I won't be buying anymore regular DVD's.

Re: Who's Changed HD-DVD / Blu-Ray Allegiance?
Based on original specs, Blu-ray looked the favourite; but as facts about actual performance, costs etc became available, then I decided that HD-DVD would be the better option of the two and was more likely to succeed.

Re: Who's Changed HD-DVD / Blu-Ray Allegiance?
I will end up owning both, but having the Toshiba E1 and seeing that it WORKS as per the HD DVD spec (excluding DTS Master Audio which is not mandatory), I am very disappointed with the Blu Ray offerings so far. I am reasonably confident that the Toshiba will remain up to date (as long as HD DVD continues) - at least in the near term. It seems that current BD players are already obsolete and it would be foolish to buy anything other than a 2nd gen player at the moment.
(P.s. This is more a note to self saying WAIT!)

Brought my XA-1 when it came out but now i've just brought the samsung Blu ray player also only as Blu Ray seem to have more films that appeal to me.

It is a tempting price but I really want a UK player. I have to many memories of blowing pieces of kit when I moved back from the US some years ago - due to faulty step downs. The firmware update issue needs to be adressed also as BD seems to be more in development than HD DVD. I still have around 25 HD DVDs on order so that should keep me busy until 2nd gen BD arrives

Re: Who's Changed HD-DVD / Blu-Ray Allegiance?
Well I'm surprised by the results,as I thought there were a lot of BluRay supporters in the begining, who then swapped over to HD-DVD. I guess people were like me and thought HD-DVD sounded like a better idea than Blu-ray.

Re: Who's Changed HD-DVD / Blu-Ray Allegiance?
I've been a Sony fan for years. Everything I had was Sony. I was well behind the PS3 and Blu-Ray.....
Then:
1) Heard about the crap MPEG-2 quality on the initial BR discs.
2) Very poor BR titles
3) PS3 delays and delays
4) PS3 cost
5) The inexpensive HD-DVD drive for the XBOX
Now I'm fully behind HD-DVD.
If Sony have lost me, I feel pretty sure their gonna loose full stop.

Not at all. There are quite a few of us who have supported Blu-ray all along, and who will continue to do so. And none of us will be pressured into changing our minds. These are forums for free and open exchange of information and ideas. You can't have a discussion if one person isn't allowed to speak, just because the other doesn't agree with what they are saying. And without any discussion or disagreement whatsoever, there would be no forums.
regards, Nick

Re: Who's Changed HD-DVD / Blu-Ray Allegiance?
A few years ago when I read about the 2 formats I thought Blu-ray sounded better. It has a cooler name and larger capacity after all. However I've come to the conclusion over the last year that none of that really matters and HD DVD seems to be more consistent. There are some films on Blu Ray I'd like, but I can live without them.
My route into HD via a £122* XBox 360 drive is an absolute bargain too. So in consequence I'll stick with that for now & let the dust settle on the whole situation for a year or three. If Blu ray has survived by then (and still has exclusive content) I may get a dual format stand alone player.
* Thanks to Sendit & Quidco.

I've changed to Combi. I like the LG... when it's a bit cheaper.
