Re: Which 1 is best for biamp with avr300?

Hi,

Before two weeks i was bi-amping my b&w 703's on the extra channels 6+7 of my Arcam AVR300, since we wanted to have 2 X zone 2 speakers installed we've upgraded our set to an AVR300 in combination with the P1000.

Over the last two weeks i've tried different set ups, where :

1. bi-amping all channels (except 6+7) between AVR300 and P1000 where the p1000 took care of the low frequencies.

2. bi-amping front and center (b&w HTM7) between AVR300 and P1000 (same setup as 1, but no bi-amping on the surround speakers (705)

3. bi-amping front (703) with the P1000 in full and center (HTM7) between avr300 (for high) and P1000 (for low)

Number 3 is FANTASTIC. Since the 703 can cope with just that little more power the sound is very detailed and relaxed in the same time. If i had room for it i would use the P1000 alone for bi-amping the center speaker as well, but not enough for zone 2 then.

I was thinking about the FMJ P7 poweramp, however, the gain on this amp is 29 (thx) and not 31 as with the AVR, this would not improve the system.

The next thing i'm now thinking about is to put :

1. OR an active filtering system between AVR and P1000 (for fronts)
2. OR Room correction system for the fronts.

Hope this helps

In any case bi-amping on the AVR300 with the

Re: Which 1 is best for biamp with avr300?

I was thinking about Bi-amping my AVR-350 with an FMJ P35/3. I need to get my cables changed before I can try out Bi-amping though.

Im wondering if its worth Bi-amping the surrounds, I dont have the cables to do it at the moment and getting replacments to match my others could be costly.

I was planning on either using the P35 to Bi-amp the front 3 or use the spare 2 channels on the 350 to do the fronts and use the P35 for the rears and the centre.

Just trying to decide where best put my money, upgrading my amp or going HD with a Sony Bravia W decisions decisions...

Honestly, i doubt that it will be worth it to bi-amp the surround since they only have peak effects.
It is certainly a good idea for the fronts, since they have the focus most of the time.

Re: Which 1 is best for biamp with avr300?

Hi,

The best configuration could depend on how you intend using your system.

I have an avr300 biamped using the 6/7 channels. A P35 with the mono-link biamps a mission 78c se for the centre channel.

The p35 gives the centre channel a lot of substance and control - it really sounds nice. For my purposes its great for sky movies and prologic 2 outputs. Using an external power amp also reduces the total load on the avr300's internal amps which improves things.

If you're gonna use a big centre like an htm1 - you might want to try biamping a 2-channel p35 to drive the speaker properly. If your main use is gonna be music it may not be so important how you drive the centre speaker and you might get more benefit powering the front L/R.
