Arcam Feature Suggestions

I have had a few ideas of the sort of things I would like to be implemented as additional features on existing models. All of these are things that I believe could possibly be implemented with software/firmware updates. I thought it might be useful to create a thread to gather people's ideas and also possibly to get responses from Arcam representatives on why certain functions that have been requested may not be possible. Please make your requests realistic and something that is likely to benefit a number of people and not just a quirky requirement that is exclusive your needs.

I'll start with a few of mine.

1. Arcam AVR250/300/350/AVP700/AV9: The ability to interface with the R-Lead and R-Dock allowing control of the iPod with the CR80/CR100 remote.

2. Arcam AVR250/300/350: Ability to reassign surround back amplification to any other channels. As the centre speaker is of significant importance in an AV setup it would be useful to be able to bi-amp (or even tri-amp in my case) the centre speaker. I can't see this being particularly difficult to implement but there may be other reasons beyond my understanding of the units that prevent this being possible.

3. DV137/139: The ability to choose the position of the 'Status' information window and also whether it is transparent or not. A big white status window right in the middle of the picture is the most stupid place ever for it. At least change it back to the way it was on the older machines when it was just white text overlaid on the picture at the very top of the screen where it didn't interfere too much with what you were watching.

4. DV137/139: More detailed information on the soundtrack being played in the 'Status' window. Again like the previous machines I liked to be able to see the sample rate of the audio track being played such as 24/192 and 24/96 for DVD-Audio.

5. DV137/139 The ability to use the 'Audio' button on the remote control to switch between the CD, 2 Channel and Multi-Channel layers on SACDS with a brief message on the front display indicating which layer was being read. This is particularly useful when you are playing an SACD with no display turned on which I do a lot in conjunction with the 'CD Direct' function on the DV139. I'd imaging it would be useful for owners of DV137s too so that they didn’t have to have there display on all the time

Anyway, that's my lot for the time being. I look forward to seeing your ideas and hopefully Arcam's responses.

Also, if this looks like it could be a useful thread for both the consumers and Arcam then perhaps Dankeech could make it a Sticky so that it doesn’t get lost.

Arcam DT91 Tuner:

How about a firmware or hardware upgrade for owners of the DT91 DAB tuner to be able to receive DAB+ using the newer AAC+ codec. It would seem a waist to put my DAB tuner into landfill when our government fire up the DAB network in Australia and my DT91 will only tune into FM. Users in the UK will want to get the latest DAB+ when OFCOM start rolling out the newer DAB standard as well.

upscaling via comp, if sky can get away with it, i do not see why Arcam could not put a little hack in it like the region hack. give us back aspect ratio changing on hdmi. Crusty what is an R-Lead and R-Dock ?

Not very useful to you though with a VM1 centre speaker

Very true!!

However, the upgrade bug is always at work and an HTM centre would be nice

What I'd like to see is the sub output outputting a mono down mix in stereo direct mode. I would think this could be done with some simple electronics so the DSP can remain switched off but the sub can still be used.

On the DV137 the ability to output different digital signals at the same time i.e. bitstream to the amp and 2 channel up the HDMI to the TV, some TV's inc mine(Pio 507XD) cannot decode a multi channel signal. This will allow us to watch and listen to DVD through TV.

Yep, definitely has my vote ... my better half prefers the "simple" way by just having to turn on the TV and DVD, without all the of the sound, etc. Plus, sometimes, for late night viewing, you might want to just use the TV speakers. I really don't like having to go into a couple of submenus to change it and then have to change it back again at the end. If we can't have both, how about a shortcut on the remote instead? Please!!!!

Oh - and please can we have audio via HDMI @ 1080p ?

Also, this isn't a new feature as such, but would like to see the HDMI handshake improved as end up hard rebooting my DV139 (power switch, not standby) more often that I'd like for 1800 quids worth of player!
