Sony KV-32DS60U picure quality

Just acquired one of these sets today for my son. Picture doesn't look too bad to me but my son wants it mainly for his Xbox 360 and Wii and when the game menus and any text is on the screen you can see that the text isn't very sharp. It's the same on all scarts and the s video socket. We've been through all the picture menus and fiddled with all the settings including putting everything back to the factory preset but can't get a sharp picture. The text on the TV's menus and EPG look quite good though. Just wondered is there's anything else we can try? Is there a degauss option somewhere or is that just for computer monitors?

Thanks

John

All CRT TVs have a degauss function...it is automatically done at mains switch-on but you do not have a degauss problem...that would show up as patches of incorrect colour and is evident on all inputs...are you sure your son isn't just sitting too close to the screen?

The set's not new - must be at least 5 years old. We got it for nothing off Freecycle I wouldn't mess with it myself but do you think it would be a cheap fix at a TV repairers then?

We're comparing it to the old 26" set (a Tatung) - the game menus on his Wii are really clear on that but almost unreadable on the Sony, regardless of how close or far way you are.
