Re: Pioneer Elite Player

On that same link if you look at 'more pictures' you'll see that it has a 5.1 channel analogue out on the back.

Re: Pioneer Elite Player

Looks like a nice player all in all, but the price is steep even for the US. It will be interesting to see if this one makes it over here, as on spec, it is the one I would go for.

Is it me or does Blu Ray seem all at sea regarding the new audio formats? Fair enough you can get uncompressed LCPM on Sony pictures discs, but what about Dolby TrueHD, DTS MasterHD? Is it a licensing issue or technical? I cannot be the only one for whom the audio is just as important as the picture. I would buy BR in a shot if this were resolved.

Re: Pioneer Elite Player

I must admit when I first started to look into the next generation disc formats I thought 'Okay DD+ for broadcast will be an improvement and TrueHD is lossless for the new disc formats. Cool. Sorted.' There now seems to be a ton of lossless formats. There seems to be loads of options for doing the same thing.

TrueHD
Multi-channel LPCM
DTS HD formats

I'll just be running analogues from whatever player I end up getting and just choosing whatever sound format the disc has. They're all very high quality anyway so i'll be happy.

I bet the Av amps of the future will be a whole mess of badges on the front

Re: Pioneer Elite Player

I just want a player that will decode them all and output as LPCM via HDMI. The reason being is I can apply room correction and DPLIIx, THX etc. There is a lot to be said to having the player do the decoding and the receiver amp do the rest, and even Dolby has said that this is their preferred method. Hopefully CES announcements will give me some good news. Once you have heard DD+ and Dolby TrueHD you are spoiled for life! (Although I understand the lossless PCM on BD is just as good).

Yeah I bet. I'm assuming you've heard quite a few higher res audio formats, what are they like? Is it just an increase in the fidelity of the sound or is steering between the surrounds better too? I'm actually really looking forward to improved audio on the center channel too for the improved vocals.
