Renaissance HD-DVD

Has anyone got the French release of Renaissance on HD-DVD.

Interested to know if there is much difference in PQ between SD and HD-DVD with the film being in B&W.

Re: Renaissance HD-DVD

French release only has the original French soundtrack and no English subs, so no use to non-French speakers. However the German release (out last Monday) has a DTS HD (possibly MA) English soundtrack - which I believe is the same as the UK DVD (i.e. no French audio at all).

Mine shipped from Amazon Germany today (along with Das Parfum), so I should know more next week.

Re: Renaissance HD-DVD

What I assume to be the English-dubbed version is available to rent in SD from the likes of BB. I've got it on my queued list but not received it yet. Waiting to watch the rental copy of it first in order to see if it's a keeper i.e. worth the HD DVD purchase.

I thought it was dire! The story's infantile, the cartoon work confusing (lots of mirrors and glass walkways that are invisible because of the low 2D quality of the cartoon which they keep slipping into) and the quality of finish varies all over the place.

The makers, and a few people who actually liked the film so your mileage may vary, keep comparing the film to "Sin City", which I think is an INCREDIBLE INSULT to "Sin City".

Rent the Standard DVD version first before making any decision to purchase the HD-DVD version!
